| Just swapped to a sump and now I'm super stressed. Posted: 06 May 2019 08:38 PM PDT So I've been building to a sump for the past 2-3 months. Built a new cabinet, siliconed baffles into a 20 gallon long, picked out a protein skimmer, return pump, and overflow, and prepped PVC/braided nylon for plumbing. Tonight I finally switched everything over. Pulled my HOB filter and refugium to make room for the overflow and return pump, added ~15 gallons of new saltwater to the sump, installed the skimmer and pump and flipped it on, dropped my chaeto/grapvine in my middle chamber, etc. I also moved all my HOB filter media to the pump (temporarily) since I read that a lot of your good bacteria lives in there, plus it seemed like I had a decently pod/brittle start population in there that I'm hoping I can convince to reside in my new refugium instead. Everything seems to be running smoothly, but I'm super stressed that i screwed something up. Is a pipe going to break over night? Will the pump and check value fail? Will I cause an ammonia spike and kill my tank? Those of you that have gone through this, what are somethings I should look for or keep in mind? Any red flags that I should address immediately, or anything I can to now to prevent issues in the future? TIA for any and all help! [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 06 May 2019 11:17 PM PDT Hey r/reeftank. I like to think I'm pretty active in this sub but there aren't any rules about buying/selling. Thought I would try my luck here. I'm selling a new in box/sealed hydra 26 for a client of mine. I'm open to offers on eBay. Just let me know you saw my post on reddit in the offers message. Mods. If this is not allowed my apologies. Please remove if need be. [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 06 May 2019 07:28 PM PDT Hello all, I recently found a steal of a deal on a tank that I couldn't pass up. Got a 90 gallon for only $20.00. It's a big upgrade from my other tank and I'm going to need a filter. Currently my only experience is with hobs. The tank isn't drilled and I'm scared to do it myself. Could you guys throw down your two cents , with who runs overflow sumps/ who runs canisters, along with any suggestions you have for me. Thanks and happy reefing! [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 06 May 2019 06:57 PM PDT Looking to take my first jump into Saltwater after years of freshwater. I've been looking into several options over the last 6-8 months, AIO systems vs some variant of 20-40 gallon tanks size and dimensions still undecided on that route with a sump and fixings that go with that. Being my first saltwater tank I'm wanting a stable and aesthetically pleasing tank, don't plan on corals but who knows what I'll be doing in the future. I'm trying to not go over the top in cost but I'm not penny pinching. Any hangups with AIO's? Any benefits? If I don't go AIO I'm thinking a 35 gallon cube with overflow and a sump. I'll build a stand for either. Thanks for the time and assistance. [link] [comments] | ||
| Hermit in love with a rock flower Posted: 06 May 2019 09:48 AM PDT So I recently purchased a very small Fancy red rock flower anemone and since yesterday one of my dwarf hermits has taken a liking to it. Its been rubbing its shell on the anenome and even moved the anenome after some time. It's not eating or trying to hurt the anenome with its claws, at first I thought maybe it's trying to get a shell cleaning but after sometime of watching this strange behavior I'm tempted to think that the hermit crab is tryi g to convince the little anenome to jump on board its shell for defense. Have any of you seen or heard of this type of behavior? [link] [comments] | ||
