Lighting questions for reef tank

Posted: 16 May 2019 07:50 PM PDT

Hi, I am looking for some advice on lighting. I have a 45 gal reef tank I am starting. I want to at some point have corals from frogspawn to Acropora. The tanks and colors i like seem to use reef brite lights t5+blue LED. I am looking at current orbit marine pro duels and the reef brite. Since I like tanks that have reef brite and the corals look nice with them , I am considering these but not sure if I can use a 50/50 reef brite LED with 2 blue LED. OR 1 T5 and 2 blue LED. Also not sure If i can achieve the same results with the current USA orbit marine pro LEDS. I have also considered coral life 30 inch duel T5's and then add the reef brite blue LEDS X2. Let me know your thoughts as I am stuck here with the choices.

Thanks,

Jon T

sorry if this is in the wrong area.

I'm tearing down my tank sold some of my stuff off posts on offerup that people saw before offerup took down my postings.

I'd rather sell them locally obviously

Stocking ideas for a predator tank

Posted: 16 May 2019 03:26 PM PDT

I recently upsized and sold off my coral and fish (bummer) during a move to a new city. I've decided to stick the new tank as a predator tank, either FOLWR or softies only. The tank is a 60x18x25 tall. Right now the plan is a Humu Trigger, some type of tang, and a toadfish to catch detritus. I'd also like to do either a smaller grouper, marine betta, or a harlequin tusk, or maybe something else I haven't thought of yet.

I'd love to hear thoughts on what that fourth fish could be, as well as stocking order and compatibility of that setup. I know it's a big bioload, but it'll have an oversized sump and skimmer.

PS tang police don't worry. I'm looking at bristletooths and Kole tangs.

IM 40g Nuvo Question

Posted: 16 May 2019 01:29 PM PDT

Anyone have this tank? What do you love about it? What do you hate about it? Right now i have a 25 lagoon and have been thinking of upgrading to the 40 for more vertical height. Is it worth it?

Question about tank and weight

Posted: 16 May 2019 05:02 PM PDT

I was planning on setting up my tank this weekend but I find myself getting nervous about all the weight. This was all brought on because I finally got my rock in the mail today and holy shit is it heavy... I mean I know its rock but dang. Anyway, it got me to thinking about how heavy the rock, substrate and water is going to be and I started to get a bit nervous.

I have a 29g Aqueon which can evidently hold 330 lbs, but then I see that the bottom isn't tempered glass and I have a new worry. Is this ill founded apprehension or should I legitimately hold off on this build?

I figure the filled weight to be around 240 lbs.

- 24.7g of water @ 8.6 lbs/g = 212.42

- About 20 lbs of rock

- 10 lbs of sand

For a total of 242.42 lbs - this is obviously an estimate based on how much water 20 lbs of rock displaces.

I realize this is under the 330 lbs max that this tank can hold but I suppose the non tempered bottom is what I'm most nervous about atm.

Thanks for reading and any insight / comfort would be greatly appreciated.
