| Posted: 08 May 2019 10:44 PM PDT So excuse my ignorance but I go to the store and I see aquarium sticks for $35+/- and stones for hardscape that hold similar prices some times. Is there a reason they are so expensive? Is there a way I can use my own sticks and stones or what? Please school me on this. [link] [comments] | ||
| Are those plants I chose are enough for starters? And when to start fertilizing? Posted: 09 May 2019 01:30 AM PDT Hi :) I got my 250 liters tank set up. Iv filled the soil and soon I'll add the branch and stones. I have all the equipment, now I need to buy some plants. Iv been told few times that i need a decent amount of plants for starters (about 70% planted) before adding the water, and that I should start with not to highly maintained ones. Those are my picks: Rotala rotundifolia pink x3 riccia fluitans x3 hemianthus callitrichoides x3 POGOSTEMON HELFERI x3 Java moss x1 Bacopa x3 Is this amount of plants are enough? Are those good enough picks or should I consider somthing else? One last very important question, how long should I wait after I'll plant before I start fertilizing? Thanks! [link] [comments] | ||

| Best way to control algae in a plant only tank? Posted: 09 May 2019 01:05 AM PDT I make a few buck occasionally in my region selling my extra tropical aquarium plants and since i had a spare 21l tank lying around so I'm trying to set up a basic plant only growing tank. The only living things i plan to have in this tank are plants (red tiger lotus, twisted val, misc swords, anubias, java moss, red pine, ambulia). The only light i have for the tank at the moment is very yellow (getting a new one soon) and i want to avoid algae problems in this tank especially while it's still cycling. A friend of mine who is doing a similar setup was recommended a few drops of bleach in the tank. Not sure how good of an idea this is and what concentrations to use (googling hasn't been any help as all algae control suggestions assume you have fish in there too). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks [link] [comments] | ||
