| I missed you all! Could I get some opinions? Posted: 04 May 2019 07:09 PM PDT It's been a while, and my name is different now, but I'm back! I missed you all- I don't have anyone in my circle that I can talk goldfish with. I've got one big ol' drama queen and he's just got his digs moved and all fancied up. Once he's used to his new environment and I'm sure the cycle is safe, I plan on adding a friend for him! He's a five year old shubunkin who has never had a roomie, and I'm debating another shubunkin or maybe a sarasa? Opinions? Also is there anything I should do or beware of when introducing a new roommate (other than the obvious quarantine period)? [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 04 May 2019 03:09 PM PDT do you just need no experience to work at a fish store?? half the tanks had dead fish and diseases. I know what a black moor is supposed to look like and that ain't it sir. smh [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 04 May 2019 07:04 PM PDT Hey guys! Im totally in love with ranchus and orandas and I'm going to build a small pond for them (100g most likely). I am about to close on a house and I live in central Florida, anyone else have any here? Do you keep them out year round? Can I see your ponds that you have fancies in? Any tips or tricks? Any good online sites? My LFS (that I just quit) gets them from a distributor that imports from Asia, thoughts? Long time aquarium keeper, first time for goldfish and ponds though. | What Can I Do To Help My Goldfish? Posted: 04 May 2019 06:49 PM PDT So I've been dealing with a situation with my goldfish. I have a 50 gal tank and had a Cory catfish and my goldfish for about 5 years and recently my cory catfish had passed away, only thing is, he usually hid in my sunken ship decor and I didn't notice for a couple of days. By the time I noticed, the ammonia had spiked and/or my goldfish had eaten him. I immediately did a 50% water change and removed all decor and gravel. He is the only one now in the tank and he is in rough shape, he did get ammonia burns on his scales, that is now luckily healing but he's laying sideways on the bottom, mostly lethargic. I thought he wasn't going to make it but I'm not going to give up on him. Since he has been on his side for about a week, there is a now a bubble of sorts forming on the gill that he is laying on, it's not red and not very big but I don't want it to get worse. I've been feeding him a mixture of fish pellets and frozen peas and doing 25% water changes every 2-3 days but still not improving much. Not sure what else to do. I was thinking of trying to suspend him off the bottom of the tank with a net to try to get him off that injured gill but I don't want to further stress him and not sure if it will help any. Thanks for any advice or thoughts <3 [link] [comments] | ||

| So.. my favorite goldfish has dropsy. Posted: 04 May 2019 12:56 PM PDT So my favorite goldfish has the beginning stages of dropsy. He has been lethargic this past week and on Wednesday I noticed he had fin rot. I have a 50 gal tank with an oranda (the sick one) and a black moor (I checked params with the master kit and all is fine. Maybe the slightest bit of ammonia but I did a 70% water change right after) I've been treating the fin rot since Wednesday with salt and melafix for wed, thurs, friday. (With 50% water changes on Wednesday and Thursday but not Friday) And today is when I noticed the slight raising of the scales on one side right behind his head. Today I did a 80% water change with thorough vacuuming, removed all decor and any dead leaves from plants, added salt, turned off the light, and am currently in the process of trying to raise the water temp to 80 ish. Also yes, I am treating in my main tank. I have a 30 gal hosp tank set up just in case, but I dont have a spare filter which is why treating in the main tank so I have a better chance at keeping the parameters stable. Right now, im on my way to the not so local fish store to get some more salt, more food and see what they reccomended for meds. Is there anything else I should be doing? Or anything I should pick up from the fish store? Im willing to do anything. Thank you [link] [comments] | ||

| Mechanical vs biological filtration Posted: 04 May 2019 08:00 AM PDT This might be a dumb question, but how important is mechanical filtration in a goldfish tank? I have a hang on back and a Ziss Bubble Bio filter in a 40 gallon breeder. I do 75% water changes every 5-6 days, and I don't feel like there's a lot of mechanical filtration happening as I end up vacuuming up a ton of matter. The reason I ask is my HOB is a lot louder than my Ziss, and I'm just wondering if two bubble bio filters will be alright instead. [link] [comments] | ||
| Dropsy Suspected - What Should I do? Posted: 04 May 2019 12:42 AM PDT One of our goldfish, Pansy, has been ill recently, and I strongly suspect it could be dropsy because her belly is swollen. She is also constantly breathing and her fins are red streaked. What should I do? She shares the tank with another goldfish and I don't want the infection to spread. Also for some background info, I do a 25% water change every week and this has been going on for around a week. She's been ill like this before but she managed to get over it, but now I'm worried she's going to die. :( Update: I've ordered some antibacterial medication but it won't arrive until Thursday.
