Inherited this beast from my nephew. Poor gal was in a 25L tank so found this 90L cheap and filter too. Is there space for a companion, also upgrading to silk plants on payday, how many? TIA

Advice for fish (picture in comments)

Posted: 13 May 2019 05:14 PM PDT

AdviclI got her from a smaller, cramped, poorly maintained tank with two other larger goldfish. I suspect stunted growth. Believed to currently have a bacterial infection. She was doing better but now she's struggling to swim. She's very buoyant. She tries to swim but always ends up on the top of the tank. Having issues acquiring prescriptions for them. The ammonia levels are elevated and it appears there could be ammonia burns on her and one other fish (she used to be a mandarin orangish colour but now she's more of a bronze or brown). Cloudy eyes on them and I think they're recovering from their finrot. Does anyone have any advice? (And yes I know she looks dead but I promise she's fighting really hard to live) this is my first time owning a fish and I really want to do what's best for them. TIA

Do I "save" two goldfish from owner who doesn't know anything about them?

Posted: 13 May 2019 09:52 AM PDT

My friend is desperate to get rid of her two goldfish she won from a fairground four years ago thinking they'd only live a few months. She'll give me a 60l tank, the two fish and everything she has for free because she can't be bothered with them and no-one else is willing to take them.

From what she's saying, they're about 5 inches long each. In a 60l tank.

I can't buy a larger tank until August, when I'm planning to buy a much larger aquarium for my own fish, and possibly get some pufferfish but that's besides the point.

I know I will feel so so bad for them if I take them and have to keep them in that tank, but I also think I will take much better care of them than she currently is doing (she does a water change once every few months, once she can no longer see the fish)

So do I take them? And hope I find space for two massive goldfish tanks in my bedroom, as well as my tropical tank and potential puffers? Or do I hope someone else finally takes them who can house them properly much sooner than I can?

Any tips for keeping algae off of live plants?

Posted: 13 May 2019 06:06 AM PDT

My husband and I have multiple tanks, the biggest of which is a 60gal with 2 comet goldfish and a rubber nose fish. We have never had an algae problem like this in any of our other tanks. It's pretty easy to keep the algae off the glass, the rubber nose does a good job with that and I can get any excess off with a magnet scrubber, but i am having trouble keeping algae off the live plants because it's difficult for me to reach deep in the tank and it will not come off easily. I'm afraid that it will kill our live plants since the light won't reach the leaf if it is covered in algae.

Question: Moving a Fishtank

Posted: 13 May 2019 02:16 AM PDT

My fish tank is pretty large (60 gal) and currently has 4 fancy goldfish in it and is situated on the floor (hard wood).

I just moved them into the new tank and my roommate changed his mind about how he feels about it and would prefer it to be moved to another part of our apartment.

I spent hours moving, purifying and setting up my new tank so I would prefer to remove as little of it as possible, but it's very heavy as is.

We can move it by sliding it to its new spot, but there is a small bump on the floor seam in the way and we don't want to break the glass. We are currently considering taking out most of the water, putting some water and the fish temporarily in their smaller old tank, and scootching the tank on top of cardboard over the seam and into the new spot.

Anyone have better advice?

friend brought me some fish her class were experimenting with so they didn’t have to go back to the shop, bought a big storage box for them and used gravel from my former tank to try and get the water okay since it was really short notice... any advice?
