Does the tank need to be filled? Posted: 22 May 2019 10:10 AM PDT My daughter seems the think she only needs to keep the 10 gallon tank half full or less. [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 May 2019 06:25 AM PDT Hi all first time axolotl owner here. My axolotl is arriving at the weekend and I bought some live bloodworms today. They're in the fridge, but I'm wondering have I bought them too soon and will they last to the weekend? Can I freeze them myself? [link] [comments]

Would it be a bad idea to put a Baby axolotl in the same tank with a full grown? Posted: 21 May 2019 06:53 PM PDT I'm concerned with whether my adult axolotl would eat my baby (about 2 in). Can I go ahead and put them together or should I keep them separated until the baby is bigger? [link] [comments]
cycling needed when transferring axie to a 20 gal? Posted: 21 May 2019 06:20 PM PDT hello! i am going to buy a 20 gal long tank for my axolotl, but I am wondering if I should cycle this tank before switching him to it? I was thinking I would just put all of his stuff (including the water) from his old tank into the new, add more water, and let the sand settle before adding him. But I want to make sure before I do so that I won't shock him!! thoughts? [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 May 2019 09:04 PM PDT Talk to me about tank chillers. I like the idea of keeping a stable temperature, especially in the summer. Currently relying on my AC blasting to keep the tanks in the mid 60s F. The tank i have now is 29g, but I'd like to get a chiller that will be able to handle 50ish for a future tank. Experiences with certain chillers? Pros and cons? Gimme. [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 May 2019 01:30 PM PDT I just set up two tens for my axies (no time to cycle, sadly) and within the hour of being reintroduced my Male began freaking out and attempting to leave the water. His face and mouth were bright red. I moved him to a temporary Tupperware container but I dont know what to do for him. The redness and freaking out reduced to near nothing. Advice? Posted: 21 May 2019 03:58 PM PDT Hi guys, I just got my first juvenile axolotl (3 in) and I'm fussing over every little detail about it as usual. I just introduced it to its tank, and it went and hid as expected, but its little gills are curved pretty far forward which I've heard is a sign of stress. Is it just stressed about the new environment or should I be more worried? It's tail isn't curled at the end, but the gills and the fact that it isn't moving much yet is just making me a little worried. [link] [comments]
Please help! I think my axolotl is dead :'( Posted: 21 May 2019 11:12 AM PDT So I was away for the weekend, and I asked my friend to feed him. I fed him a block of blood worms on Thursday, and my friend fed him on Sunday. I think my friend over fed him, as he gave him 2 blocks of bloodworms (I only ever give him 1 at a time). Last night he was very distressed, swimming around frantically, going up gulping air very frequently, much more than usual, even making strange frothy sounds as he gulped the air. Even in the morning he was still frantically swimming. His gills were very bright dark red and curled forward. Now it's the afternoon, and he is completely motionless at the bottom of the tank, not responding to touch, I even added more water. His gills have lost colour, but are still curled forward. Please help, I don't know what to do. I pray that he is just resting. I have now placed him in the fridge, hoping that in the morning, he will be back. It is morning now, and I opened the fridge to find him completely motionless, with no colour in the gills. I am pretty sure I can confirm that he has passed on now. Thank you for all your concern and help. His name was Sedric, and he was the best water dragon. He was incredibly smart, and aware, and the coolest thing to look at whilst he swam around his tank. He was a close friend, and I'm only realising now how important he was to me. May he rest in peace. For all you axolotl lovers, please take care of your water dragon. [link] [comments] |
