We moved Max into a new, bigger, fully cycled tank about 10 days ago. Since then they've been hiding pretty much all the time, normally in this back corner. They were previously much more active. Should we be concerned or are they just sulking for a couple of weeks?

Reggie update!! My sweet boy has gained a bit of weight since his sickness and he also hates me touching him less!! I have to remind myself that axies like to float though, I get so worried after the whole ordeal :)

rehoming a young axolotl ;(

Recently I had to make the tough decision to find someone to adopt my axolotl. I live in northern Oregon and would appreciate any tips and resources for finding them a good, safe home.

Swollen Anus

Posted: 01 May 2019 08:16 PM PDT

Hi guys, my axie has been living with me for 1 year now, and for some reason his/her bottom or sexual organs are kind of swollen. Is this natural? Also, it lives in a shallow water tank with no filter at the moment since we are preparing for a move... i put the axie in the fridge, it seems to heal them (he was sick and super skinny once, wouldnt eat, fridged him a couple of days and seemed alright, this was 3 months ago). Should i worry?

Opinions on commenting on post with lotls in bad shape

Posted: 01 May 2019 11:11 AM PDT

I'm really conflicted on this. I recently found a person on insta who has two axolotls. She keeps them in a wayyyyyyyy to small tank and the both look really skinny. Should I say something? I don't want to start a fight but I'm concerned

Axolotl Questions!

Can I keep an Axolotl and a black moor goldfish in the same tank? The tank is 15 gallons with a 20 gallon filter on it.

Raising pH with crushed coral?

Posted: 01 May 2019 01:30 PM PDT

Just found this thread so forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place/format!

Our axi, Cujo, has low pH (6.6) and we purchased a pound of crushed coral to safely raise it. I have a couple questions for anyone who has used this method before.

1) I've rinsed it almost 5 times and I've read that it typically stays cloudy even after an hour of rinsing. Any tips on keeping the cloudiness down?

2) How much should I add to the filter bag for the first "dose"? I plan on putting bits of it in the filter bag, and attaching it under the filter so the water flows through it (our filter doesn't have room for new media)

3) I did a good amount of research before hand, but if anyone knows of health issues this could cause please let me know! ***NOT IMPACTION, the coral will be in a FILTER BAG so he cannot swallow it. He's a little guy because we bought him from a pet store (years ago—I have since learned that pet stores horrible) that stunted his growth. There's NO way he could swallow any part of this bag, promise :)

Also, his pH is low because he's in a newly cycled 20 gallon tank. we recently switched him to very fine sand substrate. Lastly, I promise the 20 gallon is big enough for him. He's only around 6 inches long and is full sized. Like I said, I have a theory that Uncle Bills purposefully stunts them so they sell better, and when I first had him we were misinformed of his diet which only worsened his size issues. I really do everything I know to do for him so if you see mistakes in what I am saying be kind!!!

Any tips on Axolotl care in warmer locations?

Posted: 01 May 2019 11:09 AM PDT

Sorry for spelling errors I'm on mobile and just terrible with spelling in general

I've been reading a lot about Axolotls and am hoping to buy my first one later in the year after some preparations for the habitat and to just make sure that I'll have all of the supplies for an Axolotl before I purchase one.I think I've found a good website to get one but I would love recommendations. Anyway, I've been reading about basic Axolotl care and have read multiple times that heat can really stress them out and eventually cause death if close to 75. I live in Florida and I'm worried about the Axolotls temperature. I have plans to buy a cooler or fan or something to keep the temperature down but are there any other ways I could keep the temperature down. I live with family and can't keep house temperature low 24/7. My room is already pretty cold and I have and idea on where to keep the tank so it will be dark (because I heard they don't like a lot of sunlight) but I'm worried that it just won't be cold enough. Are there any other precautions I can take to keep the tank cold?.
