Aquatic Snails Snails eating my plants!

I have a few mystery snails in a 10 gallon community tank and they have been absolutely wrecking my plants. I feed them algae wafers, snail jello, and of course the leftover fish food. Is there any reason they would do this when they have plenty of supplemental food? What can I do, if anything, to discourage this behavior? I love the little guys, but right now it's driving me crazy!

thoughts for feeding snails? i lost two of my snails due to copper in their algae wafers.these don’t have any copper sulfate listed in the ingredients
