| Posted: 20 May 2019 05:27 AM PDT I've got about 11k gallons total in my ponds, about 3k in the upper with no fish (plant bog passive filtration), and 8k in the lower with fish. The lower pond has a skimmer, and the upper has a waterfall filter. The skimmer fits two pumps, and I have an Alpine 4100 and 8000. The 8000 goes to the waterfall, and the 4100 to the bog. The 8000 runs like a champ. However the 4100, I'm tearing apart the skimmer every other day because it's shutting down. I take it apart and find very little to clean out. The 8000 keeps running, and I pull off the maple leaf "helicopters" and that's that. Hook the 4100 up and nothing happens. Take it off of the check valve, and it's pumping water, hook it up and nothing comes out. Do that a few more times and it starts pumping and a day later it randomly shuts off. But the 8000 keeps on chugging. Alpine support told me to do a full tear down clean. The video said this should be an annual thing. I'm having to do it every couple of days and there's nothing to really clean out. Does anyone have experience with these pumps? Is the 4100 just a poor model? Head is about 8' so it's not a big lift. I'm second guessing myself and thinking about putting in an Aquascape 4000-8000 adjustable. [link] [comments]  |
