Some questions.

I see videos on YouTube all the time of people setting up shrimp tanks and before adding substrate they always layer the bottom of it with some sort of powder. What are the benefits of using it too?

If I use sand as substrate I am limited for plant choice, what are some good suggestions since shrimp love a heavily planted tank? I was gonna do an island scape where in the middle of the tank I will have rocks covered in moss and a bunch of anubias, buce, and java fern( some sort of wood aswell), and water lettuce. I'm just concerned there wont be enough nutrients for the plants to thrive if I use sand.

Should I use RODI with some sort of gh booster or tap? I am ordering a test kit for gh I have one for kh and tested my tank water it's at 7 it might be a tad to high, but when I test my gh if it's in good parameters I might just use tap water and prime. Also might add some crushed coral to the tank to raise if it's too low

What do you feed your shrimp? Specific brands that are a favorite in this subreddit?

What fish go well with shrimp I'm focusing on shrimp but after watching aquarium co ops video on shrimp he had some fish as in the waste they produce is a good source for the shrimp to feed on and get nutrients in the water if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for taking your time reading and helping me out, if you can include any sorts of good tips or info it would be greatly appreciated:) for those of you wondering my set up is a 12 gallon long(36 inches) with 2-3 sponge filters my lights I will be getting are 2 asta 20 fresh water lights, still stuck on sand or gravel though I heard some people do a light layer of potting mix and sand over it

How do you guys use this product? Do you disolve it all the way like no powder left before adding it to tank or just pour it right away?

I want to make a vapor wave themed tank

I kept shrimp a few years back and when they died I stopped. I'm looking to get back into it, and wanted to make a vapor wave themed tank. Any suggestions or ideas? I'm pretty good on shrimp basics for tank setup, but curious how to combine it into this style.

What do you guys do with your culls? I’m thinking of starting a shrimp tank and I would love to purchase culls that would otherwise be destroyed because I’m just interested in colorful shrimp!!
