My first golden bee shrimplet.

This is not a fun game of hide and seek in my heavily planted 20 gallon long tank but every baby spotted is a victory. I can't wait to watch these specks grow up.

After months of struggling, I lucked out when someone from aquaswap hooked me up with some culls for cheap. Needless to say, they seem to be doing quite well in my community tank

Question about achieving different color variations of neocaridina

Posted: 18 Apr 2019 10:12 PM PDT

I'm a few weeks away from purchasing my first group of shrimp (waiting for some aquarium equipment to come in first) and I was wondering how breeding for different color strains works. I've looked at a chart that shows what strains could produce what color patterns, but was wondering if that goes both ways...meaning that if I purchase only green shrimp, could I eventually end up with oranges or even reds?

Also, a bit off topic, but would it be okay to introduce plants and shrimp to a new aquarium near the same time? I'm in the process of setting up my first tank in over a decade, and I wanted to order some plants and the shrimp at the same time to save on shipping costs. The new (used) tank has been running with the water, substrate, and some driftwood in it for over a week and I've been doing 50% water changes every day as tannins are building up in the water.

What is this on my shrimp?

Where’s your favorite place to get shrimp from?

Posted: 18 Apr 2019 04:07 PM PDT

Thinking about trying out some neos for my dorm tank and was curious as to what are people's preferred place to order their shrimp. I've order other livestock in the past from LiveAquaria, and Aquatic Arts. I've heard mixed things about shrimp from aquatic arts though so I'm not sure if I want to go that route though. If it makes any difference I'm looking to get maybe some wild types or low grade cherries.

What’s a good shrimp that could live in this bottle with little to no maintenance (that’s also readily available)

RCS Size - are my shramps healthy?

Posted: 18 Apr 2019 03:07 PM PDT

Everything I've read says adult RCS should reach 1 - 1.6 inches. My largest shrimp is maaybe 1 inch and almost all of them are between half an inch and three-quarters of an inch. I started with around 30 last July and I've got... a couple hundred now? Honestly no idea I'm not sure how I'd ever count them. There's no other livestock in the tank, besides some little pest snails and copepods. I feed them sinking pellets 3x a week and there's some algae in the tank to munch on as well. Overall they seem healthy, there's usually a few berried at any given time and I can't see anything wrong with them. The parameters are as follows:

Ammonia: 0 PPM

Nitrite: 0 PPM

Nitrate: 10 PPM

dKH: 4

dGH: 8

The parameters have been very consistent since the livestock was added. I use DI water and add the minerals in. I believe the pH is around 6 but it's hard to tell with the test strips I have. If the pH might be important here I could have it tested with the pH meter at my workplace.

So my question is: Is something wrong? Should my shrimps be larger, or is this normal?

I was super happy to find a new, great LFS. Brought a clover home for my shrimp tank.... now I have hydras

Posted: 18 Apr 2019 05:28 PM PDT

I've removed 3 so far, but I put the plant in on Monday. I just took the clover out as well (dang spending money on cursed plants!!) So I'm hoping to minimize damage.. I don't see any more at least, but what the heck do I do ?? Additionally, should I call them to tell them they have hydras?
