New to reefing and my this is first toadstool. It’s a more uncommon long polyp toadstool mushroom so I’m told. I love it!

My two urchin buddies hanging out.

I couldn’t get all of them to open up for months. After chasing after what was causing the slime algae issue (it was shitty RO water from the LFS) and fixing it, I couldn’t be more pleased. Here’s a quick video I took before I head out on a trip for 10 days.

I wish these guys weren't such huge dicks. He's probably going to have to go back to the store soon.

Maximum tank inhabitants for a 15 gal? I already have two clowns

I had a nice Aggressive setup about 10 years ago, considering starting up again, but would rather start small. Any recommendations on the newer self contained systems on the market?

I ran a 150 about 10 years ago, basically a tank full of jerks.

I wanna get a system going again, but something smaller and much lower maintenance.

Any recommendations on newer self contained systems that are worth putting the money into?

Discussion: what's the one coral you just can't seem to keep happy?

For me it gonipora? I've tried 4 or 5 frags over the years and they always start fading after a few years

Trying to decide on aquarium size - what's the largest volume/load for 5 gallon weekly changes?

Posted: 01 Apr 2019 03:28 PM PDT

I am in the planning stages for my second aquarium. I'm thinking about a Red Sea Max S or Reefer (including sump), but I could be convinced to go for a different AIO model. I'm done with the DIY look though.

The current plan is for a bare-bottom mixed reef, and my upper size limit is defined as "I want to keep water changes to one five-gallon bucket per week". I expect to have the system's recommended skimmer, flow, lights etc and a reasonable quantity of rocks.

A Max S 400 has 110 gallons total water volume and a Reefer 350 has 91 gallons. Could I run those reliably with a scheduled 5-gallon weekly change? To put it a different way, what kind of fish load should I plan for if I wanted to stay at that change rate?

Is ro water necessary?

Posted: 01 Apr 2019 12:25 PM PDT

I've recently purchased my own nano saltwater tank and I use tap water that's been dechlorinated and then I bring it up to the proper specific gravity for my water changes. I was wondering what the benefits of using ro water would be?

I'm currently having algae issues and thought it would help with that as well as provide a better environment for corals. Is that correct? Are there other benefits as well? And is it worth it when it's such a small tank even though I do want to upgrade in the future

Thanks for the help.
