/r/plantedtank's Weekly Random Acts of Kindness! Posted: 26 Apr 2019 03:04 PM PDT The Purpose: We all perform tank maintenance. Sometimes, perfectly good plants end up in the trash because they simply outgrow their limited environment. Why not share these plants with another hobbyist? This monthly thread offers a space where buyers and traders can congregate, promote biodiversity, and make the world better. Offering other aquarium-related items for sale or trade is also acceptable, but keep in mind this is a "Random Acts of Kindness" thread. All equipment and plant-life should be offered in either trade or for as cheap as is possible. If you'd like to offer your homemade ferts, foods, or other equipment for retail sale, please visit the plantedtank.net's forums. Posting retail items for sale is not appropriate in this thread and those comments will be removed with a polite warning. The Rules: 1. If you would like to post a "WTB" (want to buy) or ISO (in search of), you must also offer items for RAOK or trade in the same comment. "WTB/ISO" posts that do not offer anything in return will be removed to keep this thread in line with its intended purpose.

Ok....so what's the better of these 2 options? Posted: 27 Apr 2019 12:36 AM PDT Hi. I need advice. I have a 16 month old, 20G long planted tank. It used to have 5 amano shrimp, but a year ago, over a 6 week period, they died one by one. Ive kept the tank going with the plants but no animals. 10 days ago, I added 4 neon tetras. They were free from r/Aquaswap. I know neon tetras need more than 4 to be happy. I thought my tank was cycled. Puttin fish in it has thrown the levels of everything out of wack. Ive been doing daily water changes, and using prime. Although the water tests are bad, no one has died. All 4 little dudes seem fine. But they seem freaked out to not have a "pack." So here's the question. Do i let 4 lonely n. Tetras fight through my bad test readings, or bring their "pack" up to 8, as it should be and then fight the chemical readings/bad water parameters? If i fix it w 4 tetras, then add more cuz their pack shoulf be larger, will I go through the whole cycle fight again? What to do...which is the lesser of the 2 evils? [link] [comments]

Put a sponge on your surface skimmers! Posted: 26 Apr 2019 10:12 PM PDT Venting I went on a business trip for a couple days this past week. My wife had the task of topping off the tank and feeding the fish, which wasn't a new thing. She however didn't notice that the surface skinner had dropped down into the tank. When I got settled in and was answering emails tonight, I looked to my left and saw......no fish. Well none of my 30 neons at least. They were all dead at the bottom of my canister filter after taking one heck of a ride. Groan. Time to restock and get a unused sponge out of storage. [link] [comments]
