How large will marimo moss balls get?

Posted: 09 Apr 2019 06:49 PM PDT

I'm just wondering how large a marimo moss ball is capable of getting? I remember seeing them in Iceland the size of grapefruits or larger, are Icelandic moss balls and the moss balls sold for aquariums the same species?

Overdosing flourish excel.

Posted: 09 Apr 2019 11:55 PM PDT

So just found out today that I have been overdosing FE for quiet sometime now. I was not following the instructions after only reading them ones several months ago. During those many months i was dosing 2 cap fulls per day. I found out today when i had just bought a syringe to dose more accurately. So ive been unknowingly overdosing the FE for MONTHS in my 20 gallon long without anything dying. It has medium to low light stocked with neon tetras, otto cats, and orange shrimp. (The shrimp had even breed and had all of the fry survive) Im sort of curios how nothing ever died on many. Anyone have a clue as to why? Maybe the became immune? Also what should i do now keep the dosing the same or lower it to recommend?

What should I look for before planting my plants to substrate?

Posted: 09 Apr 2019 05:46 PM PDT

How do I identify what's a healthy plant or not? It is okey if I plant first and put water right after it or I should fill the tank and wait for a day?

Lights for my aquariums

Lights for my aquariums

I need few opinions/advice, I have two tanks

10 gallon tank from topfin

Plants: dying java fern, and recently added amazon sword, rosette sword, moss balls and moneywort.

Fish: 1 Betta, 1 mystery snail and soon to be added, celestial pearl danios

Light sucks on this, I was thinking

  1. https://www.petsmart.com/fish/heating-and-lighting/hoods-and-glass-canopies/top-fin-hinged-aquarium-glass-top-27534.html?cgid=300120, if this hood doesn't work (since hinge in middle, might stop some light) then I would get a acrylic and cut it as per my needs
  2. better light like NICREW BrightLED or SkyLED

20 gallon high Marina tank

Plants: Apongetons which are thriving, moss balls, anubias and moneywort.

Fish: Paradise gourami, 2 white cloud mountain minnows (4 coming soon), 2 Panda corys (6 coming soon) and 4 otocinclus

Stock lights seems okay on this, since plants are not dying. But should I still upgrade?

Best conditions to grow algae on purpose?

Posted: 09 Apr 2019 05:15 PM PDT

I have a bunch of Oto's and I think I'm going to have a separate tank just to grow algae on rocks and things I can then transfer to my main tank for the Otos to pick at. My mollies LOVE the algae wafers I try to give my Otos but the mollies don't seem to give a crap about algae on the hard surfaces.

So.. growing algae on purpose. I've read that good circulation helps prevent algae, so I'm thinking very low circulation, but.. should I do NO circulation? Do you think I'd need to run a filter? (There will be no fish in my Algae-On-Purpose tank). Lots of light.. (light 24/7?), I don't really have a place where it can get sunlight though.

I'm planning on dosing fertilizer as well as topping off with my water changes, and I'm thinking this might be a nice tank to try out one of those 2-bottle CO2 rigs. And I've read that warmer water (mid-high 80's F) will grow algae, so I'll throw a heater in there.

Questions and/or any opinions you may have, re:

Should I run lights and CO2 24/7?

Should I run a filter and/or stimulate any kind of circulation at all?

Can you think of anything I haven't considered that might be helpful?

Where to start - Planted Tanks

Posted: 09 Apr 2019 05:38 PM PDT

Hi guys! Firstly I would like to apologise if many people ask this but I am feeling a bit lost.

Everyday I see posts from this community because I find the aquariums absolutely stunning and I would love to get into this hobby the problem is... I have no idea where to start.

Could someone direct me to a website or a forum where I can find information for beginners?

Thank you all in advance!
