First attempt at a planted tank with decent substrate/equipment any advice would be nice

Six months ago, I glued little patches of grass to a piece of wood. Put it back the tank and had instant regret. Now it's thriving and I think it's my favorite piece.

For eg. Nerite...I'm a bit afraid of getting out of hand and thinking in having perhaps only one.

Do I need to upgrade the Lighting in my new planted tank?

Any chance my dwarf water lettuce is afflicted with some sort of fungal/insect/bacterial condition?

Posted: 14 Apr 2019 06:30 PM PDT

i want to start, but i don't know how to start

Posted: 15 Apr 2019 12:24 AM PDT

is there any ultra beginner book/guide that i can read. A book that's focusing on how to build then explains how it works.

Im currently thinking of creating a planted tank without C02(so it will save me some money) plus i want to put a fish on it that prefers warm water since im living in a tropical country.

If you have a noisy filter don't forget vaseline!!

Posted: 14 Apr 2019 06:26 AM PDT

This post goes for all aquarium hobbyists but this is the subreddit I frequent most being a planted tank enthusiast. Anyway! Some of you may know this but if you have an older filter that has a noisy impeller (The bit that spins to create suction inside a filter so it can pull water into the casing and expel it) apply a generous layer of vaseline on the magnetic bit (Looks like a black cylinder) and some more all over the moving parts in the impeller! This is a tip I've used before and completely forgot about and just silenced the noisiest of all filters (The penguin biowheel 170). If I help just one person from this post enjoy their planted little world (or barren colorful gravel with castles wasteland) then I have done my duty!

**Vaseline is non toxic and does not mix with water so it will not float around inside your tank**

Suggested Plants for Sand Bottom 20g Stocked W/Kuhli Loaches and Pygmy Sunfish?

Posted: 14 Apr 2019 07:25 PM PDT

The title about says it all, other than I am very new to live plants (I've been running a 10g lightly planted for a few months with no issue though). 3100 Lumen, 6500K LED light. I need it to be fairly heavily planted. I kind of want to try a carpet.

Currently moving up from a 10g which has Java Fern, Amazon Sword, aponogeton ulvaceus, Anubias on driftwood (along with an unidentified grassy/mossy plant), and a moss ball. Honestly wouldn't mind ditching the apono.
