- What to do with hitchhikers?
- 5 cm Jar From My Windowsill
- Question-Need to replace substrate can I keep plants and shrimp for a few days in a food safe plastic bucket while I clean up?
Posted: 02 Apr 2019 05:46 AM PDT So I finished my first jarrarium on the weekend and have some plants (from outside) left over in a couple containers to be planted in another jarrarium today. In the containers I found the following hitchhikers: - 1 isopod - 1 millipede - 1 snail - some slugs Now I know that the slugs will probably just be a pest (and potentially the snail too). Should I bother extracting the isopod, millipede and/or snail to use in a jarrarum (and toss the other plants with the moss), or should I just discard it all outside and start collecting anew because they might wipe out the plant life? If I end up using the bugs I'll try to find more for that jarrarium. [link] [comments] | ||

Posted: 01 Apr 2019 03:30 PM PDT So long story short, I tried a Walstad tank and my substrate had a disgusting number of worms in it, like long(1-2"/piece) wriggly brown flat ones. The showed up after a couple of months. I tried to get rid of what I saw but they keep coming back. It turns my stomach to see them all in there. I want to save my shrimp, snails, and some of the plants, dump the substrate, clean the jar, and replace it with fluval shrimp stratum. I'd like to start the process tonight and treat the plants to get any possible worm eggs off of them. Do you think the shrimp will do ok in a bucket, with a foam filter and aeration, for a day or two while I clean up and "reset" the system? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
