Can I make a sustainable jarranium with these plants and snails? Posted: 28 Apr 2019 05:30 AM PDT My betta died a few weeks ago (S.I.P Eliot, I had him for 2 years) after developing a tumor, and I was too upset to empty his tank. So, I just kinda turned everything off and left it. Live plants and pond snails were still inside. I went to empty the tank this morning, and somehow, the plants and snails are still thriving (Well, at least my anacharis, hairgrass, and java ferns are. My anubias and amazon sword have seen better days). I really expected everything to be dead, but I suppose the **tiny** amount of window light has sufficed? So this got me thinking--instead of tearing down the tank and throwing everything away (which I had planned to do, because I wanted to get rid of the pond snails that have overgrown my setup), why not try making jarrariums. My question is, would any of these plants work in a jarranium? And, assuming I have algae growth, could the snails survive long-term? Edit: Another question, do jarranium lids need holes for air circulation, or do the plants create enough oxygenation? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Apr 2019 05:46 PM PDT So I only found out about these a few days ago and love them!! Bought a 5 litre jar and a bunch of different plants that have been recommended so can't wait to set it all up when it arrives!! It's going to be on a window ledge in the UK, is that enough light? Or can I just add any kind of light? Like this? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F352544454176 Or does it need a special type of bulb? Thank you.
