What can I do to fix my axolotl?

Posted: 27 Apr 2019 09:25 PM PDT

My axolotl Chi Chi is sick or something we saw that she was lethargic with her mouth open in the water so we decided to wait it out and see if it would fix itself but it didn't so we fridged her. We fridged her correctly and she has her mouth closed and was behaving normally. While she was in the fridge we removed her sand because we thought that the sand might be the problem. After she was fridged (for 5 days and then slowly adding tank water for 2) we put her back in the tank and to my dismay she had her mouth open again and she still does have it open I'm really worried. Her tank temperature is currently on 18-19 anyones wondering. I can send pictures if I need to as well.

Deciding whether to get a second axolotl -Advice welcome

Posted: 27 Apr 2019 08:45 PM PDT

Hi all, I have had my axolotl for about a year. She's a gorgeous, happy wild type that is about a year and a half old. I have been debating getting a second one but am worried that they won't get along- she was used for breeding by her previous owner so she has what I like to call "mommy aggression". She thinks everything is food basically and nips at things. In other owners experience, do you think she could get along with a second axolotl or do semi-aggressive/mother axolotls struggle with harassing tank mates? They would be i about a 50-60 gallon tank (currently have a 25g but plan to upgrade regardless of if I get a second one). Thanks y'all :)

MY axolotl hasn't eaten for two weeks after having fungus

Posted: 27 Apr 2019 08:32 PM PDT

Ok so some context; I've had my two axolotls (Twig & Sprout) for two years now with no health problems, but about three weeks ago i noticed a white fluffy fungus on both of them, Sprout was much worse and was acting lethargic, so I put both of them in the fridge and gave salt baths twice a day.

Twig got better in a couple days and I returned him to the main tank after a week, he ate again almost instantly.

Sprout however is concerning me, He was in the fridge for two weeks, and it has been 3 days since he was put back in the tank, but he still hasn't eaten. The tank temp is a bit high (70f) but otherwise everything is ok and they are both very active/healthy looking.

I'm feeding them both a half nightcrawler every night but Sprout is completely uninterested.

I'm thinking about trying to feed him a f/t brine shrimp cube but I'd like some other suggestions, i'm nervous about it taking any longer because its been so long without him eating, so are there any tricks to getting them to eat? Is force feeding possible/probable in this situation? Any help is much appreciated!

*If the temperature is what could be causing it I'm currently trying to get it fixed by putting treated fridge water in the tank every day, but I'm trying not to do it too quickly so they don't go into shock.

Twig is acting and eating fine though so I'm not sure the temperature is the cause.

Feeding

Posted: 27 Apr 2019 06:34 PM PDT

Hey guys I just switched my axolotl to night crawlers instead of pellets because I heard the were a lot better but I'm wondering how much and how often I should feed him. Today was the first day I fed him with the worms and I cut them up into smaller pieces roughly 1/3 of the worm due to him being a teenagish axy and he gobbled them up quickly but I'm wondering if I overfed him because I gave him about 5 or 6 pieces and I can't find anything online abt how much to to feed them worms and how many times per week. Keep in mind he still definitely is growing and he's growing very fast.
