- Goldfish selection at my LFS here in Japan.
- I have a black moor goldfish. I came home from work yesterday and it looks like he got like a cut or something, but I’m not sure what it is. Does anyone have any idea what could have happened or what I can do to help him?
- I've had this little "nursery" for the baby plants in my the tank for a month. This morning, despite having been going in and out for a month, Donkey forgot how to get out this morning. Nursery is now elevated so he can't get in, but the plants still get light and fresh water circulation.

- Goldfish fry update! Bigger and more colourful. Whenever they see me move they think it’s food time lmao. (Ive left some algae growing for a reason).
- My tank is ready. And I'm getting my soon to be happy Fishies in the morning!
- My neighbors asked me to take care of their fish for a week, anything I could do to make this better? This looks way too small and simple

Goldfish mouth opens to his stomach Posted: 12 Apr 2019 09:45 PM PDT Hi guys! I was going on Google and couldn't find any answers so I figured read it answers most of the questions in my life so I'm asking for advice here. I bought a goldfish today from Petco and I am mediately noticed in the baggy that his mouth is mostly to the right side and it almost appears as though the left side of his mouth has gone down to his stomach. It opens and closes when he opens and closes his "right mouth" but it is too thin for him to eat out of. So far the only problem is I have seen with him eating is that he eats and spit out the food but he goes after it and is able to get it down usually the second time. Also his right Gille seems to be a bit more open than his left one almost like a piece is missing. If there is any advice on a certain way to take care of him please let me know! Thank you [link] [comments]
Swim Bladder Issue? Please help! Posted: 12 Apr 2019 09:43 PM PDT I think my fish has a swim bladder issue and I need some help! Here's a video. I try to follow the small mostly golden/red fish, Golding, as he's the one with the issue but my other guys get in the way a bit. He just started swimming like this tonight. He sort of has a tilt so his butt is upwards and his head is down. He can swim down to the bottom of my tank but he's been hovering at the top a lot over the past hour or so. Sometimes he stops swimming completely and rests near the top and a slight sideways tilt. I'm very concerned. :( Tank Params: My fish are in a temporary 40 gallon right now and are moving into a 120 gallon next week, I know I am currently overstocked 4 fancies in a 40 gallon. Ammonia: 0ppm Nitrites: 0ppm Nitrates: 20ppm Temperature: 78 F I feed them Repashy Dandy Oranda's Super Gold twice a day. I also gave this guy 1/4th of a shelled pea in hopes that I would help with consitipation - I realize now that I probably should've fasted him first. :/ Other notes: I had an ammonia spike two days ago. I'm not sure what caused it, my tap water is now testing at 0ppm. My ammonia was at 0.50ppm, I did an immediate 50% water change (after testing my tap water), dosed my tank with Prime, and dosed the tank with Stability to help strengthen my filter. I've been advised not to do any water changes for a few days to make sure the ammonia is cycling properly. I had been doing water changes every day or every other day to keep nitrates low as I know I'm overstocked. In terms of eating, Golding doesn't eat a lot. He eats a bit less than my other fish of about the same size. He's been very active today. What should I do from here? I've read online about fasting him, adjusting the tank temperature, or feeding him different food. I'm not even 100% this is a SBD, as I've never dealt with that before. Thank you!!! Posted: 12 Apr 2019 08:43 PM PDT Sirs and Madams, I was improperly advised to pick a gravel substrate for my 30g aquarium. It currently contains one lonely goldfish. After some reading it appears that this is a risk. How would I go about replacing the substrate without crashing my cycle? I have no quarantine tank or bowl at this point - how best to keep the Goldfish safe while the process is underway? [link] [comments]

My tank is ready. And I'm getting my soon to be happy Fishies in the morning! Posted: 12 Apr 2019 04:53 PM PDT So exciting! But for my tank they gave me water quality salt. Not de-chlorine stuff like I had with my old fish about 10yrs ago. Is this enough? It doesn't really explain what it is other than purifying ingredients and vitamins and minerals to prevent disease. I’m getting a pair of fantails, tips for picking them out? Posted: 12 Apr 2019 03:10 PM PDT I'm aware their colour can change, but I'm thinking about compatibility. I'm not sure if goldfish act different in a m/m, f/f, or m/f pair. The fantails at my LFS are in two tanks. One is a communal goldfish tank with fantails with bodies about an inch long, and the other is a black moor/fantail tank with fish about 1.5 inches long. How old do you approximately think they are by this? And what behaviour/red flags should I look for? They will be in a 40g breeder, either a growout or a permanent depending if they outgrow it. Unstocked otherwise, maybe a mystery snail down the road. Edit: Also, are there any other goldfish that can comfortably live in a 40g as a pair or with a fantail? I haven't done much research on any other than fantails and black moors because the fantails caught my eye right away. Since scrolling through this sub I've seen quite a few other breeds though! Posted: 12 Apr 2019 10:14 AM PDT I currently have a 29 gallon which only holds 1 little guy or girl, I don't know yet (Henrietta). I bought the tank because it was the most reasonable for my budget, but now I want to add some tank mates. Based off of the community info and various sites, a 29 seems to be too small to house 2 common gold fish. So I'm just looking for any advice on what I can do. My plan is to upgrade to a 40+ gallon in 6 months, but until then Henrietta is just wallowing alone. Tank specs: Aqueon Quietflow filter 30 gal Airstone/air pump Henrietta - common goldfish (Roughly 1.5-2 inches) no live plants [link] [comments]

Posted: 12 Apr 2019 06:30 AM PDT I am sorry if this is not that relevant but I just want to share my excitement with people who cares about goldfish. I am going home for Easter from university. This means that I will finally be able to go back and meet my goldfish(es?)! I might be planning on adding 1 more chubster into the group if something interesting pops up in my LFS. Posted: 12 Apr 2019 10:55 AM PDT S/O purchased what I believe to be a Calico Fantail Goldfish yesterday. Due to the impulsiveness of the decision I realized I'd probably end up shouldering the burden at least of the getting the set up done right. As soon as I learned about the fish purchase, I started googling, redditing etc. It appears the store-clerk gave my S/O absolutely no good information and just sold the fish, a $20 glass bowl (which didn't take me long to learn was meant for beta fish), a bunch of TetraFin flake food, and distilled water??. From my 45 minutes of reading I know that we surely need a tank and filters and probably need to quarantine the fish. All the online resources I've found either seem to be affiliates selling products (tons of links to every item they mention), are garbage possibly auto-generated resources (lots of spelling/grammar errors, the most generic possible advice etc), or are geared towards people inclined to ginormous aquariums with 10, 20+ fish and hundreds or thousands of dollars to spend. Where do we start?! I know we need to get the little guy out of the tiny bowl and into something legit or it'll be bad news. [link] [comments] |
