Posted: 24 Mar 2019 09:57 PM PDT I know when ghost shrimp die they turn solid white but recently i noticed a couple died and turned pink and i was wondering what was up, i would have taken a picture but i didn't think of it at the time. Is there a serious issue here, or did my shrimp just eat then die? [link] [comments]
Critique my plans for a shrimp and snail tank? Posted: 24 Mar 2019 06:21 PM PDT I'm picking up a Fluval Flex 15 tomorrow. It has filter guards that can be filled with foam to prevent baby shrimp from getting sucked in. I want to stock 50 fire red cherries (Found them for $1 CDN which is like 70 cents US) as well as various snail species- Japanese trapdoor, spixi, rabbit. This will just be an invertebrate tank. I want to use pool filter sand as a substrate, but if you guys think something like shrimp stratum by fluval would be better, I can get that. My only concer is that I already have the Fluval stratum in my other tank and it brings my pH below 7 while my pH out of tap is like 7.5 so I get little swings when I do water changes and those piss my angelfish off. I wanted to avoid that for this tank, but if shrimp stratum is just way better, I'll get it, as long as these pH swings will be ok. Having said that I would prefer pool filter sand. Planned decoration is going to be a couple of pieces of wood with anubias on them, and some river rocks. There will be a lot of wide open spaces for the snails. I have access to high quality shrimp foods like biomax and that barley stuff from my local shrimp store. Will be trying to make snello for the snails. [link] [comments]
Is my TDS too 108 tds too low? gh is 6 kh is 2 Posted: 24 Mar 2019 01:50 PM PDT I'm new to the hobby and i want to have a colony set up in my 10 gallon tank, I have some juvenile blue rili shrimp? The hobbiest I bought them from called them blue rose because they are from black rose. I use basically RO water with a tds of 4. And I have a cuttlebone in the tank to add minerals to the water gradually, should I get salty shrimp to raise my tds or will my shrimp be ok? They are new to the tank only a few days of being in there. I also does easy green for my plants and I did yesterday after my WC. [link] [comments]
Any idea where to source Halocaridina rubra? Posted: 24 Mar 2019 05:02 PM PDT As the title says, trying to find a responsible seller to get a starting group from. Anyone with experience here? [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Mar 2019 04:36 PM PDT Hi all, wondering what powders or liquids people add to their tanks to keep their shrimp happy (with RO water)? It looks like the Salty Shrimp products are most popular, however, I cant buy any of these locally, and postage costs more than the product which makes me want to look for alternatives! There is something called Continuum Flora Viv Iodide, but its a bit vague as to what it does besides assisting with molting. Has anyone had any experience with this, and is it an alternative to Salty Shrimp? (link here: https://www.continuumaquatics.com/freshwater_i/floraviv_iodide.php I did purchase some Mironekuton powder, with the LFS telling me this was all I needed, just add it with an (RO) water change and do nothing else. However there is very little information out there in regards to dosage and if I would require anything else? Also it doesn't seem to change the TDS of the RO water. It would be great to hear what others are doing, sorry if its a very basic question or some of it doesn't make sense! I'm still working it all out..... Thanks, Dekkar [link] [comments]
