While at my LFS I notice this.

Can't wait to see this one grow out. Hopefully the grafting on the polyps spread!

Red stuff on my zoas?

Parameters drastically decrease after a week.

Posted: 25 Mar 2019 09:18 PM PDT

I really am getting frustrated with constant dosing and am thinking about just doing a calcium reactor with Carib Sea ARM. Anyone have any recommendations.

After a week:

Calcium 480-420

dKh 12 - 7

Magnesium 1350-1300

My major issues is with the dKh decreasing so fast. Coralline and corals are sucking it out so fast its hard to keep up. Then my growth goes to crap. I'm actually thinking about scraping off all the coralline, I feel like its out competing my corals at this point.

Anemone Split

Posted: 25 Mar 2019 07:53 PM PDT

Does anyone else get super excited when their anemones split or is it just me? I've had my tank for about 2.5 years and got my anemone very shortly after my tank cycled (I know, not a smart move but it is my first tank and I was very excited to get going) but it turned out to do great. It grew pretty big and split once but then I had a heater go out over a weekend I was gone and the stress made one of them split again. I got a new heater and turned it to 78 and neglected to actually check my thermometer for a week or two (it was actually at 82) so things were slow for a little until I got that fixed, won't make that mistake again. But the three anemones managed to survive the temperature fiasco and are now back and growing strong and one of them just split again. I'm hoping within a few years I'll have a tank full of them, I sure know my clownfish would love that.

Biota Captive-Bred Mandarins - Can they thrive on dry foods & frozen alone?

Posted: 25 Mar 2019 07:22 PM PDT

Hi all,

my LFS got a bunch of gorgeous captive-bred Mandarins from Biota. According to them, they readily eat flakes and pellets and frozen and would be fine without widely available copepods.

I love these fish, but my tank is pretty new (3 months) and I didn't dare to get a Mandarin thus far. Now I am wondering whether the captive bred Mandarin's would really be that easy to keep. The $90 price tag would be a good investment relative to $30 in pods a month or so :)

Now the real question: Do you think that the Mandarin's would thrive on dry food and frozen, with only limited copepods that wouldn't fully sustain them alone?

Thanks!

Source for shoal grass?

Posted: 25 Mar 2019 03:37 PM PDT

I'm building a seagrass tank and cannot find Halodule beaudettei/wrightii anywhere. Does anybody know of a source for it?

I understand collecting it can be a bit of a challenge probably leading to this scarcity.

PS i wish people would incorporate seagrasses into their tanks more often.
