Sharing my experience so far with Seachem Flourish Excel

Posted: 12 Mar 2019 05:05 PM PDT

Wanted to share my experience so far. For the past few weeks, I've been struggling with hair algae, brown hair algae mostly, and boy was it shitty. Was killing all my Christmas moss, then it started killing everything else.

At first I started by lowering lights to 6 hours a day on the finnex planted 24/7+ cc at 70% brightness on all colors except blue at 20%. This stopped the takeover, but it was still growing.

A week ago I started dosing excel. The hair algae has been decimated. Very little remains, and it's all white/dead at that. I followed the dosing directions on the bottle, did NOT overdose like many suggest. So far, my crypt has survived too, though it's stressed. I plan on going till Friday and then stopping and seeing if the algae stays away.

Some takeaways I noticed- 1. Combatting hair algae

  1. Less food for my pleco and shrimp, something to take note of.

3 . My filter pads no longer smell like a "swamp" smell, really don't know what to think about this. Obviously it's a disinfectant, but I don't want to hurt my beneficial bacteria.

  1. My neon tetras seem much happier.
