Looking to start a pond for some goldfish!

Posted: 12 Mar 2019 11:00 PM PDT

Hi all! I posted in r/aquariums and got some advice to also post my question here. I'm currently in the process of sprucing up an old pond my parents have. It needs some TLC so no fish will be in the pond for a long while but I'd like to start planning. I was told goldfish are a great choice for a pond.

I live in central California so the weather is fairly nice all year round. However, in the summer it can reach into the 100s and in the winter dip into the mid 40s at night. So I know temp control is something I need to be aware of.

Along with that I'd like to plant this pond but I know goldfish tend to be very destructive. Any advice on goldfish friendly/proof plants?

Some additional info: I have to refill and measure the pond but I think it may be around 35-40 gallons. So this will most likely be a 1 goldfish pond.

urgent! why is my goldfish (kermit) swimming like this?! is this swim bladder?? im getting concerned..

Please help. Goldfish lethargic and laying on side.

Posted: 12 Mar 2019 08:23 PM PDT

One of my goldfish has been laying at a 45-90 degree angle for the past 48 hours, and barely moving. Did a water test, and ammonia level was a bit high, but brought it down with partial changes since then. Haven't fed him anything since it started except one pea just now. Like I said, he isn't moving very much, but will swim a bit if touched. Anyway, if anyone has any advice, please help, thank you.

When to use an airstone

As title says, I'm confused as to when is a good time to put on an air stone. Would the bubble be stressful to the fish?

Super regretting my decision to look at fancies online. These 3 are exactly what I'm looking for but while the sale makes them in my budget, the extra $60 shipping slides me right back out! Staring wistfully and being responsible suuuuucks. Have you ever missed out on your perfect goldfish finds?

My goldie has some black on his fins and tumtum. What is it? there's more than there was yesterday.

Oranda Goldfish Tank Questions

Posted: 12 Mar 2019 01:29 AM PDT

I just bought a used 65 gallon hexagon tank, and I'm in the process of cleaning it. Is a hexagon tank okay for Orandas? I want them to be comfortable, and I'm worried that I wasted money.
