How long can baby mystery snails live in the egg sac?

Posted: 24 Mar 2019 01:24 PM PDT

So I had a trip planned a long time ago and then my mystery snail laid eggs that I decided to keep. Today is the day of the trip and it's also been 8 days since the eggs were laid, the earliest possible time the eggs would start hatching. I realized this last night and removed them from the tuber ware incubator to piece of styrofoam floating in the middle of a breeder box so if they do hatch they'll be able to get into the water in a safe place. I noticed last night one of the sacs was opened a little and before I left more shells were more noticeable through the sacs. I'm going to be gone for about 48 hours and I think they will be ready to hatch by tomorrow by how it's developing. I know that you have to give the eggs a swish to let them out, would the stragglers be okay for a day or so?

Is anyone running a freshwater dst in a snail only tank?

I am breeding mystery snails, and I have a horned nerite and a black racer nerite. My black racer isn't turning over the dst enough to keep up with the bioload of the snails. I am thinking about introducing tubifex or blackworms to live in the substrate, and possibly shrimp once the worms are established. (Trying to create a more complete ecosystem that is still safe for baby mysteries.) Does anyone see red flags here? Anyone know of a good place to buy disease free worms?
