Posted: 06 Feb 2019 07:37 PM PST Hi everyone! Please help me figure out how to keep my plants alive. I've tried amazon sword and vallisneria (as well as a few others that I knew would end up being food) and I just can't keep them alive. The leaves turn brown and wilted within a couple weeks of buying and planting them. I keep two fancy goldies with them, and they swim through the plants sometimes but otherwise ignore them. Tank info: Ammonia: 0ppm Nitrite: 0ppm Nitrate: 0-20ppm (depending on how long it's been since my last water change) PH: 6.6ppm (slowly bumping this up with a goal of 7.5) Water temperature: 72-74 F Lighting: I keep an LED aquarium light on for 5 hours a day Planting: I use fluorite black sand, and the plants are planted in pots. It's a bare-bottom tank. I use Flourish Excel once a week at the recommended dose. Please help! It's so frustrating that I can't keep these beginner plants alive! [link] [comments] | ||

Posted: 06 Feb 2019 01:33 PM PST Hey everyone. I've been extremely busy so I have been having my father clean out our tank in recent weeks. He cleaned out the filter with tap water (I TOLD him you couldn't do that but I guess he didn't believe me) as the same time as a big water change and cleaning so the cycle is, more or less, reset. So now I'm in emergency mode of course. I understand the severity. Our goldfish has some mild like black gill burning from the ammonia which was around 1 ppm before my water change today. I'm testing 1x or 2x a day and doing a water change at least 1x a day. I'm getting more AquaVitro seed in an hour. And I have Tetra SafeStart from previously that is unused. I guess my real question is, how much can I realistically put in to speed up the cycle. Like, what would happen if I put in a full tiny bottle of bacteria given that the cycle is mostly reset? Or should I space out the dosage to smaller amounts each day and after every water change. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
