Posted: 03 Feb 2019 07:20 AM PST I'm pissed off at myself and wish I wasn't so ignorant and dull. Last goldfish died last night or early in the morning today. I put my hand in the water to see if I could do anything and it was freezing cold. I remember that when I changed 50% of his water yesterday I turned the dial on the heater down because it looked like it was pointed to 85 degrees f, I turned it down to what I thought was 75% which was the big mistake. I know I'm supposed to turn it down at increments every day or every other day, and I didn't think about what I was doing at the time. I shocked his body and killed him. If I say sorry here it won't make sense because I've done stupid shit previously and recently. Thinking that fish are less than any other pet was something that I said was fucked up, but obviously I think that, and need to improve on my skills with aquatic animals. Maybe I'll come back to fish in a year or in a handful of months. I'll keep the tank running if I ever feel ready for another fish. Thanks for reading, and thanks for dealing with my shit and ignorance for the time I was on here. TL;DR I killed my fish and I'm ignorant [link] [comments]

Concerned about one of our Goldfish Posted: 03 Feb 2019 11:36 AM PST Hopefully someone on here will be able to put my mind at ease. One of our two fantail goldfish, Pansy, has a habit if going to the side of our tank and not doing much, and I've also sighted her on the other side with what look like clamped fins. She's never really been as active as her tank mate but I'm worrying a lot, and because I have anxiety it's really stressing me out. She does however go to the surface at feeding time so there's no problem there. I've also seen her swim around the tank normally from time to time. As of this post I've just done a partial water change, but I don't have any resources to test the water at the moment, and it's really annoying me because I'm the only person in this house who bothers to change the water and if she dies, I'll never forgive myself. Please, I need some advice. I have no idea why this is happening and I've done everything to give the fish a good life. (Not sure if this helps, but I believe the fish are around six years old) [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Feb 2019 10:27 AM PST A few days ago my silver fancy started hiding behind my plastic plant and was just sitting on the bottom barely moving. Then this morning I saw him wrapped around my filter intake, unable to free himself. I'm not sure what I can do for him. Video: https://imgur.com/gallery/z0v4Bxu Parameters: 100g tank. Four young fancies. Amonia: 0.25. Nitrite: 0. Nitrate: 15. Ph: 8.2. I do 50% water changes every week. [link] [comments]
Help Determine the cause of death. Posted: 03 Feb 2019 07:47 AM PST 1 weeks ago, I finally finished cycling my 10gallon tank (I know, I know it's too small even for 1 goldfish, but here me out first), 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 20-40 nitrate, that's the time I chose to buy a fish. I was originally planning to buy a new betta, but instead I went to buy 2 goldfish, one black moor and one red cap oranda, both are small 5-7cm, probably less than a month old afaik and based from my knowledge that time, both should be fine to get alone since both are double tailed goldfish, the employees at the petshop also confirms that they can be together. I know that the 10g tank won't last long since goldfish are really messy and gets big easily. As soon as I got home and put them on the tank, I started planning to setup a 40-50gallon tank in the next 2-3months or so for the upgrade. Now as for their behavior. Let's call them white and black (red cap oranda and black moor respectively) 1st day White swims actively, black is at the back of the tank hiding behind a castle, I tried to feed them (sinking pellet) and as far as I can tell, only white eats all of it, black just hovers at the back and doesn't care about anything, sometimes, white will swim at the back and it might encourage black to go with him and swim in front to meet me. But I didn't see black ate anything. I feed them every other day. I'm only at home every other day, so I ask my mom to feed them twice(morning/evening) a day when I'm not. As soon as I'm home and I'll feed them, the scenario is the same, only white will eat all of them food he can find and black is just at the back of the castle decor. I tried to drop the food on his location but black just ignores it. After a week, when I got home and I tried to feed them, I found white spots on both end of their fins, based from my research it's Ich(I don't have a heater as I lived on a tropical country and their just on a temperature. I was planning to buy heater to cure the Ich. I also found out that white is floating on his side which suggest he has a swim bladder? So my mom probably overfed it. This time around, I found out that black now swims around and now he is fin nipping/bullying/biting white white he's floating on his side. I tried putting white on a quarantine tank which I just set it up, I just bought green pellets from the store to cure the swimming bladder first but when I got home white is dead and black is never been more happier(I guess) that he is now alone on the tank. Some notes and steps I'm taking - I'm testing the water every other day and found no issue. - The substrate is gravel (small to medium size since it's intended for betta) would it be possible that white ate a gravel he wasn't able to spit out, I'm planning to replace it with sand. TLDR: One goldfish died after a week, water parameters are correct, though there is an ich, not sure if it kills in a few days. [link] [comments] |
