Every breath you take

Lotus has been making great progress, but I don't know if he'll ever fully recover from his previous owner's care. Regardless, I am unbelieveably proud of him, and his endless hunger for more worms, even if he won't actually eat them half the time.

She isn’t eating :( we tried earthworms and a goldfish which is still in the tank. Any suggestions?

My Baby Axolotl is very sick, please help!

Posted: 06 Feb 2019 05:44 AM PST

Hi Everyone!

As you can see in the title, my baby Aqua dragon is sick! I wasnt sure what was going on (I thought he was just playing around) but he's been upside down making slight movements. I use my little fish net thing and give him a little pat then he starts swimming normally but then returns onto the bottom on his back. I looked online and some people have something similar with their axolotls, "axolotl floating upside down on the surface of water" but mine is upside down at the bottom, some people are saying its an air bubble or something which is normal? Which to fix that, they put their axolotl in a smaller container/tank and fill the water slightly above their axolotl (4cm higher? idk). I tried it but he's still upside down...I think it may be the tank water quality, because one of the red snails died but also spawned a lot of babies, but I wasn't sure at the time if it actually died so I left it there for a long time. I think the bacteria from the dead snail went into the water... and another thing could be my water filter? apparently axolotls become stressed by powerful streaming water.

Its been a day so far but I'm kinda scared. PLEASE HELP!!

There are little things from his little fingers

Axolotl looks sick, what can I do?

Posted: 06 Feb 2019 12:21 AM PST

I woke up today and my axie was in the same place where I fed him te day before. He wasn't moving and had regurgitated his worm. His gills were super pale and when I touched him he barely responded. Does anyone know what's going on? What do I do?

Update: It may have been so early in the morning that he was still sleeping. I woke him up with my poking and that's why he didn't respond much. The colour in his gills is back and he ate his worms today. Crisis averted...

Ideas needed for axolotl tank!

Temp is at 68.5F, will my axy be okay until the fan comes in? + Chiller recs

Posted: 05 Feb 2019 08:08 PM PST

He doesn't appear to be under any stress at all, and in fact just ate a large meal of bloodworms! I'm just concerned because this is our first axy. The temp was fine but has been steadily rising for the past week or so due to unseasonably warm temp here in Central PA. I tried to turn down the heat in the house but it doesn't appear to be helping, i'm going to turn it down to 69 tonight and go from there. Where exactly is the immediate danger zone? Do i need to buy a fan tomorrow instead of ordering one on Prime?

I'd also like recs for a decent chiller if the fans i buy aren't enough. We're also going to move him closer to the AC during the summer, but I wanted to know if there was a decent chiller under $150;

How to rear axolotl eggs?

Posted: 05 Feb 2019 06:07 PM PST

I'm going to be getting axolotl eggs for the first time and I plan on keeping 5-10 of them for hatching. I was going to get a glass container/bowl to keep them in and just do water changes before and after every feeding, then once they reach the appropriate size I'd be moving them to a 75gal tank with slow flowing water. Also, how full should I fill it because I've heard that they like to jump.

What type of substrate would be okay to use in the tank? I was planning on using live plants to help with keeping the CO2/oxygen in check because it helped majorly when I had koi.

Thanks!
