Aquatic Koi Thoughts on my new chagoi? |

| Posted: 15 Jan 2019 07:19 AM PST So I'm not new to koi, but I've never done that much research beyond talking to the guy at the pet store. I kept two of them in a roughly 300-gallon pond and they never got that big, but they were healthy right up until I added algaecide to the pond like an idiot and killed them. Anyway, lesson learned I've bought two more and have them in the same pond (after a complete drain, clean and reset). My question: is it normal for them to just sit there all the time? They're doing the same thing my old koi did - basically hanging out in one place all day, with an occasional hyper lap around the pond. They don't even really come up to eat, or if they do it's when I'm not around. I have a sponge filter, a smallish pump (I don't know gph; it's the one they sell at Lowe's that comes with a filter box) and I check the water chemistry regularly. Everything seems in order, but I've had nothing but lazy koi. I looked around the subreddit and found someone who had a similar problem, but theirs would usually start moving mid-day. The response was generally "it's only a problem if they sit still all day." Mine do, so any ideas? Should I be worried? [link] [comments]  |
