I made a mistake: pistol shrimp edition

Posted: 03 Jun 2022 11:33 AM PDT

So I got a pistol shrimp and goby on Wednesday. I have a 20 gallon Red Sea max nano with about a 1.5-2" sand bed. Here is a breakdown of the last 72hrs.

First hours of tank introduction: oh no he lost the goby as he's running around looking to make a burrow (added him towards the front). Hope they get together.

24 hrs: Oh dangit he chose to make his burrow facing the back of the tank. Goby is still hang out in front.

36 hrs: Oh look he burrowed out the side of the rock facing the tank side. At least I'll see him from the side occasionally. Goby still chilling in front of tank.

48hrs: holy shit he burrowed across the hole tank and popped out next to the goby and my maxima clam. This is getting intense. Goby now chilling with shrimp.

72 hrs: HOLY F*** HE HAS A BURROW OVER 50% OF THE TANK. Tank is super cloudy. Pretty sure they both flicked me off as the shrimp started uprooting rock flower nems in the sand.

What I read from liveaquaria: "they make a burrow"

What it's like in actuality: "They will make an intricate system of tunnels throughout your tank. Think of what a drug lord is capable of if he's trying to escape his confinement. It's like that.

ammonia spike happened and now my clownfish has tail discoloration, sorta white on the tail. Gasping for air too. I did a 100% water change and made sure everything was acclimated before they were back into the tank. What can i do to improve her health!?? orange one is in danger it seems?

Yet another incidence of a Red Sea tank seam failing. Fortunately I caught it before it started leaking.
