Would a Goldfish be okay after a 4 hour car ride in the heat?

Posted: 04 Jun 2022 02:26 PM PDT

I'm on a trip 4 hours away and the fish store here has some really pretty Goldies that I wouldn't be able to find back at home. I have a cycled tank ready, but I'm wondering if it would be a bad idea due to the length of the car ride? I don't have a bubbler or tank on me or anything so they would be kept in the bag, but I would try to keep them somewhere insulated or get them a cold pack. It's gonna be about 20 degrees Celsius tomorrow when I would plan to pick them up, bad idea? Any tips?

Can I use a canister filter for my 100 gallon stock tank? I plan to put 5-9 goldfish in there.

Nitrates and Nitrites are very high in my tank!

Posted: 04 Jun 2022 04:32 PM PDT

Hi,

I have a 10 gallon tank with one common goldfish and two fan-finned goldfish. I feed my goldfish twice a day. I ordered a test kit to test my nitrates and nitrites. I read them at Nitrites 10 mg/L+ and Nitrates 250 mg/L+. As recommended on the test kit I did a 20% water change.

The next day I did another water change. This time 40%. Yet again, the nitrates and nitrites stayed the same. Yesterday I did a 50% water change and got the same result. Also today I did another 50% water change, and got the same result. I bought some orbs from Amazon that supposedly introduce healthy bacteria into the tank, however, these have not helped either.

I'm very worried about my goldfish! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Sam.

Freezer euthanizing

Posted: 04 Jun 2022 10:05 AM PDT

Hey all! A few days ago a redditor asked about ways to put down a goldfish. I suggested the freezer method and got downvoted. Do people not like this method? Or is there a reason it's not recommended? Or do people just not understand the method? It's recommended in the book "fancy goldfish a complete guided to care and collecting- by Dr Erik L Johnson, DVM and Richard E Hess." Very reputable and helpful book written by experts including a literal fish vet.
Thanks!
