update! 🎣

At first it's "just one fish", "just a 29 gallon", then the next thing you know you're buckling a $500 filter into your back seat... the kids are loving the new FX6 though! 🤩

Redness around anus and anal fins

Posted: 02 Jun 2022 01:00 AM PDT

Hello everyone, on my almost two months old oranda has appeared redness around his anus and slightly on the anal fins. He swims around happily and still begs for food every time I walk by, which will also devour, the only difference is that all of his fins look sore. The redness and the change on his fins appeared literally overnight. Water parameters are fine. I now have him in a separate container with eSHa GOLDY. Any ideas what that could be and what should be done in case there's a chance it gets worse? Unfortunately I don't have any pics of the fish at the moment.

Inheriting a neglected goldfish

Posted: 01 Jun 2022 10:59 AM PDT

Hi. TIA for any advice you can give me. I'm inheriting my ex's goldfish. This goldfish is about 2.5 inches long and has lived in a 10 gallon tank its whole life. I don't think the water has been changed in months, and the filter is so gunked up with algae that I don't even think it works any longer. The ammonia and nitrite levels are high, though not the highest on the chart.

The fish did get fed regularly, and seems to be perfectly healthy, even though I don't know how it's even alive.

We are inheriting this fish now and we've got a nice big 36 gallon tank for it. I set up the tank a week ago with a bio bag in the filter. Today I tested the nitrite and ammonia and both are perfect (0).

My question is: can i take a fish that's been in a filthy tank and just plop him into a healthy tank, or will it be too much of a shock to his system? Which is more important - clean water, or consistency?

If it's too much of a shock, do you have any suggestions? Should I bring some water from the old tank (ugh)? If so, how much?

Thanks so. much!

New Goldfish... Swim Bladder? Advice Please

Posted: 01 Jun 2022 08:55 AM PDT

My daughter's new goldfish whom we only had for almost 4 days seems to be suffering from swim bladder according to my research. I think the aquarium sold it to us infected. A little background, it is in a starter 1 gallon fish globe with 10 drops each of the API Quickstart and Stress Coat in filtered water. This was all under the guidance of the aquarium. I am new to all of this.

Here is what has happened:

Day 1 & 2, long stringy poop. Some of it clear or tube-like

Day 3, Lethargic, not swimming very much, tilting somewhat and alternating between floating around the top and hanging out on the bottom. Since it is a small goldfish (no idea on the age), I gave it a 15 min epsom salt bath in some of the aquarium water. It didn't fight being moved into the bath, which it worrisome. It was floating around the top of the tank after I put it back in.

Day 4 (today), saw it swimming and moving a bit, it's fins are moving more. It reacts to seeing me (hence the video of me waving my fingers, no tapping!) But is now sitting on the bottom again. Not sure if it is getting better?

I am also fasting it for 3-4 days, then giving it a pea. Last feeding was 2 days ago.

Any advice to recover my fish is greatly appreciated!
