Failed my goldfish and I'm embarrassed to admit that I'm leaving the hobby

Posted: 06 Jun 2022 06:57 AM PDT

Another goldfish passed away today. I thought that I had everything under control after the previous 2 deaths. After 2+ years, I'll be giving up the hobby. I feel incredibly dejected, and I feel like my mind is conflating this event to me not having my life together, and that I'm incapable of nurturing or caring for a pet, and by that extension, myself.

I feel ashamed to admit to the people I know of what happened. They know how much I love goldfish and enjoy the process.

Even at it's best moments, it is true that this hobby has brought me a lot of stress and anxiety-fuelled nightmares. And I think it's the healthiest thing for me to take my failure and bow out.

I have one last goldfish, and she is incredible. My heart really aches to know that I will rehome her to someone more capable. I don't know where to even begin finding this person as no one I know keeps fish. I'm scared that I can't find that person in time before she gets stressed for being alone.

I feel alone about all this, and any advice or comment is appreciated

I got this fish for free a while back because of a perceived beauty deficit.

How do you feel about fancy goldfish?

Posted: 06 Jun 2022 12:06 PM PDT

I notice that some fish breeds, particularly pearlscales, seem to foster negative opinions on this sub. I'm curious to learn more and hear a variety of opinions.

New Goldfish stressing out currently existing Goldfish?

Posted: 06 Jun 2022 03:23 AM PDT

So we added a new Goldfish to the tank tonight and immediately our current goldfish started freaking out and have now been resting on the floor of the tank. Any reason why they might be acting this way? Im wondering if the tank is too small, they are being bullied by new fish or if theyre just straight up incompatible?

Any help would be appreciated as this is stressing me out just as much as my babies. Thankyou :)

I've been researching & watching videos, but if you have any tips... I'll greatly appreciate it. One question I have is, is it okay to keep just 1 ranchu?

If I import Goldfish from Asia, to Canada while they are young. Will their growth be stunted given the few days they will not have been eating?

New to ponds, fish, and water plants. CC appreciated

Memorial weekend decided to get the pond we had up and living, we had it kinda of just sitting there nothing but a pump running previous years. I know should have done the research before hand, but found a water plant place finally and then just dove head first into getting everything.

Setup;

Pond: 50 Gallon

Fish: 5 comet goldfish and 5 neon tetras

Plants : 3 Water Hyancinths, 1 parrot feather, and 1 believe it's arrowhead or elephant ear?

Filter: 70-GPH pump

Fish Food : We been doing a mix of flakes and sticks

EcoStone: Bio Block

Pond gets at most 4 hours of sun, but probably less as it is in the middle of to roof lines. Gets direct sunlight maybe 11-3.

Water has been clear for the now week, I did a 10% water change per what I read. Fish appear to be doing well actively playing and eating. We feed morning and night 5 sticks and a small pinch of flakes.

Is the pump and plants all I need for filtration with regular water changes? Things I need to read to know what I got into and to make it successful?

I have currently planned for winter bringing the fish inside along with the plants as I was told the tetras will almost certainly die, goldfish would be 50/50. Really appreciate the time and any advice you can give.
