Ooooooooh who lives in a pineapple under the sea? This Bebe ♪( ´θ`) (Also I’m aware of the pineapple’s sharp edges and had my husband sand the harsh edges before we put it in the tank with her!)

Axolotls are the new Goldfish

Posted: 06 Jun 2022 06:10 PM PDT

Change my mind.

The amount of neglected axolotls posted here a day is INSANE. It's reminding me of the old craze of randomly getting goldfish, knowing nothing about them and shoving them in an old vase or bowl to let them die.

It's really frustrating to see, honestly and I'm probably leaving this sub… but I don't wanna because the axies are so beautiful.

Anybody else have thoughts?

Desperate cry for help here! Our Axolotl (Adeline) began to float at the top of the tank we got worried so we fridged her for two weeks. Her butt came down and we put it back in its tank. After a day she was right back to the top.

Is it normal for an axo for its tail to go like this? I'm concerned.

The best part of being a first time axolotl parent is seeing how healthy they become compared to how they were before you got them, here’s lil’ shit!

Axolotl Rose ate the fungus off some driftwood which I’ve read is harmless to them, but I’m curious if anyone else has had this happen? He’s still loving his bloodworms and the water is testing clean (ammonia/nitrates). He seems totally fine, but just wanted to get any feedback y’all might have!

Steve update! (Foot lump)

Posted: 06 Jun 2022 11:50 AM PDT

No pics cuz he's mad at me for taking him to the vet lol

Steve had his vet visit today for the lump on his foot. The vet noticed a second, smaller lump between the toes and that his forearm was swollen. He wasn't sure if it was a tumor or gout, so my options were antibiotics, lance the biggest lump and then do antibiotics (which had a risk of bleeding), or amputation of the leg (which was the highest risk due to Steve's age)

I decided on lancing it and doing antibiotics, because I thought antibiotics on their own wouldn't do much, but at least now the large lump will be cleaned. It ended up having a small abscess with pus inside, and only bled lightly and then stopped. So he did well!

Steve is now home hiding in his tank and I will be keeping an eye on him. I'm not sure what the next steps will be just yet but I have a few days of antibiotics now so that's a start.

Thanks for all the advice everyone gave me on the previous post! It made me feel a lot more secure about having to take him to a vet.

He got lots of attention (all the nurses wanted to see him lol)
