This color pattern appeared for the first time recently with the latest litter of shrimplets growing up. All the new adolescents look like this. Solid black with subtle blue swirls

Shrimp are too happy - what now?

Posted: 30 May 2022 09:31 AM PDT

What do I do to thin the numbers in my tank? My shrimp are a bit too happy and are overpopulated. I ordered an aquarium fish trap and was going to try to sell some on Craigslist, but I'm looking for ideas.

Can I use Java fern to make shrimp food? This is everything I just removed after a much needed tidy up.

Moving/Shrimp Transport Advice

Posted: 30 May 2022 11:12 AM PDT

I'm moving in a couple months and I've got the transport tank ready for everybody, however I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get all of my shrimp and snails in it. Do I need to catch them individually or is there a safe trap to set in the night before or something? Also my transport tank is a shockingly large pickle jar that I have cleaned about twenty times to make sure no residue is left over. I've got a hole in the lid for my airstone and tubing, and I've cut out a space in a styrofoam block that's snuggly in a crate so the tank won't move around in the car. Been cycling the minifilter through the big tanks water so it won't be a shock.

Shrimp having trouble molting; not sure why?

Posted: 30 May 2022 09:51 AM PDT

Ten gallon tank, with blue dreams and a nerite snail. I recently moved them from one tank to a new tank but the water, plants and rocks are all the same and they all survived the transition.

Temp: 73°

Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate: 0

pH: 8 (they've always been in this high of pH water, and they used to molt fine)

GH: 14

KH: 5

I haven't noticed any molts in my new tank yet (moved them a week ago) and yesterday I noticed a shrimp that seemed to be trying to molt unsuccessfully. None of them have a white ring from what I can tell; she just seemed to be struggling to molt.

I don't know what the issue is. Is my GH too high? Not enough calcium?
