Help stocking a 10 gallon

Posted: 26 May 2022 11:34 AM PDT

I'm daydreaming/planning a 10 gallon tank. My apartment limits tank size to 10 gallons so I have no flexibility there. Im new to aquariums (as an adult I had fish all the time as a child). I'd like to have a heavily planted tank and I have some ideas of what I want to stock it with but Im not sure it will work. What id like to get is Pygmy Corys, ember tetras, a betta fish, and some nerite snails. I'm happy to go with a female betta if it would increase my chances of success.

I've read I can keep a betta with 10-15 ember tetras, or a betta with 8-10 Pygmy Corys. But could I have a betta, 7-8 ember tetras and 4 Pygmy Corys? I've read those are the minimum sizes for schools for both those varieties, but are they going to get too stressed out in small schools? Is the bioload going to be too high? Am I just trying to fit too many varieties of fish in a tiny tank? Because I'm just starting I don't want to make it too difficult to the point where it's unmanageable for me - but I do like the idea of lively tank!

If that is too much, could I do a couple of panda Corys with a betta? Or is the tank just too small for them?

I really appreciate any help/advice!

Thanks!

I need some advice on stocking a 20gal.

I have a 20gal that I'm currently doing a dry start with. I want to put nano fish in once it's fully planted (jungle style) and cycled. But what would be too much with nano fish? I already have a male betta that lives with 8 dwarf emerald rasboras and 3 Cory. They will be going into the 20gal. I would like to add more of the emeralds, some CPD and badis. About how many of each could I add? I'll have a HOB filter and a 20gal sponge filter running together for at least the first month or two. Then switching to just sponge.

Fave crabs?

I can't decide between the panther crab or the freshwater Pom Pom crab. I'd go the Thai micro crab route but I think my dwarf gourami would eat them so that leaves the freshwater Pom Pom or the panther crab. I was reading that Pom poms are escape artists but I'm sure the panther crabs are too. Thoughts? I want 100% fully aquatic crabs, so if y'all know any other freshwater aquarium crabs that are fully aquatic I'm open to suggestions. I have a 20 gallon tank.

2.5 gall has been up for about two weeks. Seems I have a few snails that hitched a ride on the plants. Should I leave them be or any concerns?
