Help my Oranda

Posted: 26 May 2022 12:36 AM PDT

Should I add anything else to this tank while I wait for it to cycle? Also do you think Moors or Ranchus would look better?

Best treatment for fungal infections?

Posted: 26 May 2022 03:28 PM PDT

My little Ranchu buddies I just got had some scales missing when I got them and now they got fuzzy white patches on their bodies. I have them in a quarantine tank with aquarium salt and lots of aeration. I've also done pimafix dips and fed them food with kanaplex and focus in it.

Anything else I can do? Should I do something different?

PSA on super chlorination "Update on my random 8.0+ and 5.0 ammonia episodes after a water change"

Posted: 26 May 2022 02:44 PM PDT

So this article i'm going to link is long but it was very informative when nobody could give me a satisfactory answer about wtf happened. Basically my tap was supplied with an excess of chlorine which converted into an insane amount of ammonia... which almost killed my fish in like an hour.

Apparently municipalities will pulse and super chlorinate the water ESPECIALLY in the summer to control some variables like bacteria, biofilm in pipes, and algae growth in warm water. The article is long but explain basically any question you could have about this.

The skinny is; does 5x your dechlorinator to be safe. It doesn't actually reduce oxygen. the oxygen thing is a myth.

Keep your fat moo moo cow fish safe guys.

Help - treatment advice needed

Goldfish to the Vet….

Posted: 26 May 2022 07:38 AM PDT

I have an approximately two inch ranchu that has a swim bladder problem. Luckily it floats upright and I've been able to treat sores it was showing from air exposure but I've been trying everything I can to treat the actual swim bladder issue with no success.

I have found a vet that is near me, takes fish as clients and does do swim bladder surgery. I'm waiting a call back for more information as the receptionist didn't know any details like price or if my goldfish needs to be dropped off overnight.

Has anyone taken their goldfish to the vet for this? What was the experience like? Cost?

Thanks!

Help please!

I have two goldfish in a 55 gallon tank that I moved from a 10 gallon tank at my office last week. I cycled the tank for a month before adding fish, and they were constipated, but recovered quickly with fasting and peas. Now, my calico fantail has been floating, swimming sideways, spiraling, and is now laying in the corner of the hospital tank. This all happened in about 24 hours.

The parameters are good (Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 20 ppm), and they live with several live plants and snails. I have a large filter and a heater with the water at around 72-74 degrees.

I've given a salt baths and am dosing pimafix at the direction of my LFS owner. He's still breathing but won't swim nearly at all and is just laying at the bottom. Is there anything I can do for him? This is my first time owning goldfish and I've been trying so hard to make sure I do everything right. Any help would be appreciated
