Please help me diagnose this skin issue and possible treatment. Not sure if cancer, fungus, bacteria.

Do I need nitrates in my water before adding koi/goldfish?

My grandmother passed away recently and I'm adopting her fish from her pond. I set up a pond at my house and the pH levels are right but I'm still getting just about 0 nitrates on the test readings.

Koi value?

Posted: 25 May 2022 12:57 PM PDT

Don't know if this is the place to ask but 🤷‍♂️ I run a small (2500 gal) indoor aquaponic farm and we've had some koi with us since we started about 6 years ago. We're primarily tilapia at this point but still have a tank with our various koi, butterfly koi, some real big ones too at this point. Our system just isn't ideal for them and we'd like to see them off to a new home. We're complete koi muggles and have no idea what/if they're worth anything. We bought them when they were little at our local garden center and now that they're older and bigger we'd like to know what they might be worth so we can sell them at an appropriate price without being taken advantage of or being naively overpriced.

Is there a way to get a rough estimate on what we might have so we can try to sell these fishies?

Thanks in advance

Koi Care, Info, YT Channels & Other Resources

Posted: 24 May 2022 08:43 AM PDT

I just found and joined this subreddit today, and I'm looking to learn as much as I can about Koi fish! I work in a big box pet store in New York and with the summer season rolling around again koi and goldfish are being shipped out again and sales are picking up rapidly.

My only personal experience with fish keeping is my small 20 gallon planted aquarium, and helping to maintain our fish system at work.

I try to be as knowledgeable as possible and share my knowledge with customers, so I would like to take any and all care tips and advice this subreddit can give me! Advice about goldfish ponds is also welcome if anyone has it. My main questions are:

1)What are good YouTube channels I can offer to customers to watch?

2)What should the minimum pond size be for koi fish?

3)Roughly how many gallons of water should there be proportionate to the number of koi? Ex. 200 gallons per fish, 500 per fish, etc.

4)What should a basic pond setup look like? Filtration, plants/decor, shade vs sun, anything like that.

5)Pond parameters! pH, Nitrates (or is it Phosphorous for ponds?), hardness and alkalinity, etc. What are safe ranges for koi fish? What are the desirable ranges?

6)Pond maintenance! What should that look like? Do ponds need large volume water changes like fish tanks do? How often should fish be fed? What about physical cleaning, especially after winter has passed?

7) anything that I haven't asked above/didn't think of, please just tell me everything that goes into a successful pond setup!
