Posted: 07 Oct 2021 01:34 PM PDT As the title states. I have an aquarium that advertised it can be used fresh or salt. Same with the filters and biomedia (ceramics) Now my LFS said to disinfect the glass and filters and filter media, what's the best way to do this? I was thinking filling my bath tub up with water and hydrogen peroxide and letting it soak over night before a heavy rinse and more rinsing? How does this sound or is it too extreme? TIA [link] [comments]

Is there a way to have a saltwater tank not be so expensive? Posted: 07 Oct 2021 02:39 PM PDT I'm going to have an empty 40 gallon tank and I'd love to set up a saltwater tank for the first time, but geez is it expensive! Is there a way to get saltwater stuff for a lower price? [link] [comments]

Posted: 07 Oct 2021 01:19 PM PDT Update! I dont know if this is the right place to post but I need help and fast. The PH in my tank has been low all day and doesn't want to raise any higher. It was almost yellow on the test this morning. I now have it at a slight purple but still very clear. This is after I changed half of the tank water, changed the filter, put a skimmer on my tank, and dosed the tank with 8.4. I have been doing my tank the last few days with melafix because one of my fish had a sore on them. After testing everything (ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, calcium, mag, dkh, etc) i found that everything but the ph was normal. So my theory is the medicine may have caused the issue? This is why I changed the water and filter, and added carbon into the filter to try and get rid of the medicine buildup. Currently my three fish are stressed and one is actively laying on the ground and dying. Ive had this fish since 2017 so Im really fighting to save him. Since the ph hasnt come up yet i diluted some baking soda and put that in the tank just now. I have a 90 gal tank and salinity is 1.025 Ph: 7.8 Ammonia:0 Nitrite:0 Nitrate:0 Calcium: 470 Mag: 1380 Dkh: about 200ppm (my test goes by drops and i used 12 drops) I have a porcupine pufferfish, arc eye hawkfish, and a niger trigger **Update 1: did over a 50% water change. Thank you to everyone that commented. Based on your advice its safe to guess that somehow a foreign substance got into the tank. Maybe someone had lotion on their hands or something. Idk. After the water change the trigger and hawk fish came out of hiding and started swimming around a bit. They dont appear to be as stressed. When i made this post my pufferfish was sitting at the bottom of the tank and would stop breathing every few minutes. I decided to take him out and put him in a bucket temporarily. My mom has a salt tank in another room with perfect parameters and no issues currently, so i used some of her water and slowly acclimated him with that water so he had more time. Thus far he has been laying at the bottom of the bucket and not really moving. He is breathing though and is pale from stress. Im now acclimating him slowly to the new tank water. The PH isnt quite 8.0 yet but it has risen a bit. Im trying to remain hopeful but we'll see. **Update 2: PH has risen to 8.0. Thank you to the redditors that advised me to ask on Humble.Fish. Here is the link to the thread if any of you want to see what comes of the situation: HumbleFish thread Again I greatly appreciate everyone that commented. You guys are the best. Clown fish question, adding more. Posted: 07 Oct 2021 12:31 PM PDT I currently have two clown fish that I've had for a few years, but I purchased a bubble tip, and it's split….a lot. At this point I'm thinking about purchasing about 8-10 more clown fish, same species, but younger. How well do you think this is going to go? Or tips to make it work. Thanks guys. Posted: 07 Oct 2021 03:51 PM PDT Running an evo 13.5 nano reef since August of this year. Currently have 2 small clowns, a frag of hammer and gsp. Chamber one is the fluval protein skimmer and chamber two has the intank media basket with nothing on top shelf, chemipure elite and seachem purogen on second shelf, and the small bag of bio rings that came with the tank and more fluval biomax bio rings in the bottom of chamber 2. I noticed that I'm starting to get hair algae growing on my gsp and tested my Phosphate levels and they are off the chart. (More than 10 ppm). I was going to add some seachem phosguard along with the chemipure elite and wanted to ask you guys if this would be okay. Or should I remove the chemipure and replace it with the phosguard? I do a 1.5 gallon water change every Friday. [link] [comments]
What kind of heater would you guys recommend for a 10g Posted: 07 Oct 2021 03:37 PM PDT My Eheim Jagers all fail to keep the temp I set. Either they never shut off or never turn on. Are there any good quality 25-50W? [link] [comments]
could an orange-spotted filefish be fed soft corals? Posted: 07 Oct 2021 02:55 PM PDT I know in the wild they eat Acropora and SPS but could you feed them things like xenia or green star polyp or just any other fast-growing soft coral? [link] [comments] |
