Welp. I guess that narrows down what’s irritating this newish chalice I have in quarantine.

Even as an SPS finatic, I enjoy the beauty of a nice soft coral.

Bristleworms are not baddies!

I've seen countless posts about bristleworms and fear of them. I get it, they look scary, but they eat detritus not live creatures. They aren't killing your fish nor your coral.

Happy reefing!

Spotted this worm looking thing on my new toadstool coral. Anyone know what it is and do I remove asap?

I’ve had him since he was a tiny single head. Now he’s up to 3! Love watching his growth so far.

Any Idea what could be causing this in Clownfish Mouth?

Posted: 12 Oct 2021 04:40 PM PDT

What the heck is this thing hiding in this old shell? I’ve seen it slowly grabbing Aragonite bits and dragging it closer to the shell. It has from what I can see 2 little tentacle arms that retract in and out of that tiny hole in the shell… could be 2 worms working together too I suppose….?

White mold all around the rim of the tank. Probably bad, right?

I have two skimmers from a previous setup. My new tank is 300 litres. Both skimmers here are using the same Eheim pump. Which skimmer would you use? Obviously, one is bigger but it's still the same pump.

I never thought I’d say this but…

My tank is to clean?

Some details before I expose the problem.

400l tank running for about a year so still relatively new and it may explain the problem.

Filtration; Skimmer MAR Live rock Shallow sand bed.

Livestock; 2 x percula, 1 x xanthurum, Zoas

Feeding; 1 small cube of home made fish food (garlic, sushi algae(I forget the name) clams, squid, octopus, shrimp, cod. Blended with quality pellets) this single cube is spread out during the day (2-3 feedings)

Maintenance; No water change but daily dosing of mg.cal.alk

The issue I'm having is getting no3 and particularly po4 up, I'm getting 0.00 po4 with Hanna and nitrates seem fixed at 3.5-3.9ppm (this is a very good number for me so I'd be happy to leave it there)

I think I'm seeing my cheato fade away, I'll probably see a spike of po4 next test but other than that what are my options?

Let me say this right away….I refuse to dose po4

I use distilled water for the ato (the stuff used for clothing iron)…. My tap water here is half decent but I'd rather avoid introducing all the other gunk that comes with just in an attempt to raise po4.

You all reckon upping my feeding schedule could solve the issue? Still new tank syndrome?

Edit: there is always a possibility my tests kits are acting up but I don't think so as I'm not seeing any algae/cyano blooms

Isn’t this hair algae? My turbos refuse to eat it, even if I place them on top of it

Water Testing - What to ask for?

Posted: 12 Oct 2021 02:46 PM PDT

Hello everyone,

I'm miles away from jumping into reefing, but I figured I stood a decent enough chance of finding someone with a good answer here to be worth posting!

I'm moving soon and before I sign a lease and I'm bringing a water sample to a lab. The lady I spoke to needed me to have a more specific idea of what I wanted them to test for. I know the city I'm moving to has very hard water and uses chloramines. It's also too far to drive to an LFS for weekly water changes. What else should I ask?

I currently have neos, caridina, bettas, and a tank of Malawi cichlids. I'm wanting to also look into shellies, and maybe discus and sulawesi shrimp in the future. Most of my tanks are planted.

I want to see if the place I'm moving to has water that would be suitable for what I want to keep before I bite the bullet and invest in an RO/DI system.

Thank you
