Posted: 07 Oct 2021 05:32 PM PDT My pearlscale had a black mark on his face a while ago and now his fins and face are gradually turning black. Currently he's lethargic and floating around aimlessly. Ammonia is always at 0, 55 gallons. 2500L/H with another 1500L/H filter. Im really unsure what's wrong with him, I fasted him for a day and he won't eat anything now. Also now he's super unbothered about being touched where earlier he used to run away. At first I thought it was his colours changing but now I'm confused. There is some poo in the tank and it's short and very very dark. I'm unsure which fish this came from though. Edit: He is floating on his side at the top of the tank, his gills and mouth aren't moving. It's possible he has passed. :( [link] [comments]

Advice to do with violent goldfish spawning rituals. Posted: 07 Oct 2021 03:28 AM PDT So, recently some of my goldfish decided they wanted to try and spawn with a younger goldfish and a lot of them ganged up on the goldfish during the ritual. They ended up injuring their left pectoral fin (its base was red and swollen) to the point they couldn't swim well. I couldn't afford any medical stuff for them in time and they ended up dying the next day from complications due to the injury. I have noticed that my three black comets (All male) and my male orange common are incredibly over-the-top aggressive during the spawning rituals, which is made worse by the fact goldfish tend to target one fish during spawning. While the rest can be a bit pushy, they're nowhere near as bad. To make matters worse, due to goldfish using social learning, a lot of the younger fish and female fish end up joining in too sometimes, mimicking their pondmates (that or I have lesbian fish.) I have no clue what to do about them, because as much as I care about them, I don't want them to badly injure another fish or end up accidentally killing another. I kind of want to give them to someone who can better deal with their violent spawning behaviour (I'm too broke to get a tank.). TLDR: horny fish indirectly killed other fish via health complications related to spawning injuries and I don't know if I should get rid of them or keep them. [link] [comments]
Quarantining fish, possible fungal problem? Posted: 07 Oct 2021 02:12 AM PDT Hey all! I've been quarantining a new goldfish for around 2 and a bit weeks now, and a few days ago I noticed a possible fungal infection on his scales and a little bit on his wen(possibly wen growth) but both of them seem to have cleared up now but I was wondering if I should still treat his tank with some methylene blue or a broad spectrum antibiotic? I'll include pictures of him to see if you guys notice anything out of the blue too that I should look out for. I've just tested his water andI had cycled his tank properly for 3 weeks with old media before I put it on the hospital tank but I think I crashed the cycle with the worming treatment I had done on him. The parameters are .25 ammonia, 0 nitrite and 10 nitrate. I'm doing a big water change to get that ammonia down and I've been every 2nd day dosing with prime so that it isn't toxic. If anyone had any extra tips with quarantining too that would be awesome! [link] [comments]
