Goldfish turned white, cant figure out the issue

Posted: 13 Oct 2021 05:14 PM PDT

I've had my goldfish for a few years now. The one is about 9 years old, the newer one is just shy of a year.

I noticed within the last month or so that the younger one began to lose all his color. He was bright orange, it slowly faded into white/orange spots (my other one did the same as he grew). Now he's off white/yellow/pink and has red eyes. He literally looks albino.

My other goldfish is perfectly fine and still has beautiful bright colors. I checked the water parameters, filter (Fluval 360) is still functioning well, oxygen bubbler still working, exposure to sunlight still the same. I can't for the life of me figure out why he's gone so pale. It's a very pretty color but I know when they change like that it's usually indicative of something wrong with the above.

I'm tempted to do an all cure treatment, because I can't really decide what he would be sick with it. Any thoughts or recommendations?

They live in a 100 gallon tank together so definitely not a room issue either. Only thing I can think of is that I switched the food a little bit ago, but the older one doesn't reflect the same color change issue.

Hi everyone! This is surprisingly the same fish; I’ve had him for about 7 months now, and he’s gotten so freaking big. I feed him 3 times a day very small amounts. How much do you guys feed your friends? Would you recommend I feed less? Thanks!

Sick Goldfish

Posted: 13 Oct 2021 11:36 PM PDT

Hi everyone, I am hoping to receive some advice about my situation. I have had this goldfish for 5 years now and he has been living in a 10 gallon tank for most of his life. I recently started researching what is good for goldfish and I decided to buy him a 20 gallon tank as it is all I can afford right now. I filled up the new tank with tap water most of the way and then the rest with his old tank water, then treated the water with conditioner. As I said before, I did not know much about fish and I introduced him into the tank a couple hours later. I checked the ammonia before I put him in and it was 0, and I also made sure the temperature was the same. For the first couple of days he was fine with normal behavior. After 2 days in the tank, he was sitting at the bottom, lethargic, not eating, slightly shivering, and not defecating. On day 3 he began laying on his side, but has been upright lately. He has been this way for 5 days now, and has started developing a round patch of dark scales of his side.

My first concern is ammonia poisoning, due to the possible ammonia burns forming but I have been checking the ammonia multiple times a day and it has been either 0 or very low. I've been performing 20% water changes each day the ammonia is above 0.

My second concern is that when I bought the tank, I bought new gravel that was smaller than the type in the old tank, and when I introduced him, he immediately began sucking up gravel and spitting it out. I am worried that he may have swallowed a piece and is constipated.

I have been adding aquarium salt, and the API stress coat stuff with the water changes as well. I currently have him in his old tank acting as a hospital tank with aquarium salt and kanaflax in case of swim bladder issues.

The water readings for the new tank are 7.4 PH, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 0 nitrate. I have since done research on how to cycle the tanks before introducing fish into them.

I have read so much conflicting information regarding this and need advice on how to help my fish recover.

Gonna due a 300 gallon tub pond. How many goldfish? How many tank mates/what species? What filters? Plants? Foods?

Posted: 13 Oct 2021 10:54 PM PDT

As the title says, I wanna do a 300 gallon above ground tub pond on my patio. For filters I'm thinking four of these sponge filters meant for 60 gallons each and a Fluval FX6 canister filter. I was hoping to have six, two telescope eyes, a black moor, and three orandas. I was also planning on keeping them with six albino dojo loaches. My local fish store sells these absolutely massive abubias nana the size of small houseplants so I was planning on planting the pond with a few of those plus some water hyacinth and water lettuce, maybe some vallsneria to keep the nitrates down. Sandy substrate, lots of rockwork and some driftwood. They would be fed stuff like repashy soilant green, hikari goldfish pellets, and tetra goldfish flakes. Any critiques/advice? I maintain two smaller tropical aquariums so I know how to take care of fish in general and the tub would be cycled in advance. I've never kept goldfish specifically. I'd be using one of these for the pond tub.

I am rehoming a few of my 1.5-2in BO Ryukin Fantails to a person with this tank. Is this substrate ok for goldfish short and long term? It's a 40g breeder. What is the max # of these goldies you would put in there?

What to do, am I doing as right as I can?

Posted: 13 Oct 2021 03:44 PM PDT

About a month ago my daughter came back from a fair with a goldfish. He had 2 days in a bowl until our tank arrived. Didn't have time to cycle the tank because it was clear he was suffering In the bowl and I was desperate to get him into the tank. Its a 24ltr and I know he needs much bigger but until after Christmas that's the only one I can afford. Decent filter and air stone, 50% water change (same time as waste clean) twice a week but his fins started changing colour to black and he looked like he had 2 black eyes (not the eye itself, the surrounding tissue). Today I took a water sample to pets at home and his ammonia was at 3 and I'm heartbroken he's been suffering. I panic bought some King British filter aid (box said removes harmful ammonia and nitrite) got him out and did maybe a 70-80% water change and I've got some Seachem prime and some test strips on the way from Amazon tomorrow. What else can I do? When My daughter brought him home I didn't expect him to live long given my childhood experience with fair fish. I know he needs a bigger tank and when I can afford it I will, but what else can I do for him in the short term?

what are some methods of euthanising

Posted: 13 Oct 2021 12:55 PM PDT

I really am dreading this. I've tried everything I can but it's reached to point of no return. He can't even swim at this point so if he hasn't passed by the time I get home tomorrow I think I'll have to euthanise. I want to make it stress free and easy on him. If there's a couple good methods hopefully I'll have the stuff to do one of them. Thank you </3

Are these goldfish eggs? My girl usually produces eggs around summer time but I’ve just found these two, the male was also showing no signs of breeding behaviour

SOS can't lower nitrates and nitrites

Posted: 13 Oct 2021 11:37 AM PDT

I have an oranda goldfish on a 20 gal tank, I found out some fin rot symptoms last week, checked parameters and came back like this: Nitrate 80, Nitrite 1, pH 7. I did a 30% water change, gave her kanaplex (seachem medicine for fin rot). I checked again this week, parameters are still the same, made another 30% water change, and fin rot hasn't healed (due to the high parameters). So I added prime (from seachem) to remove nitrite and nitrate yesterday, but haven't seen improvements. I don't know what else to do. I normally vacuum the gravel with every water change, so there's no food waste left.

I can't figure out feeding....

Posted: 13 Oct 2021 04:55 AM PDT

I did read the guide! Didn't address all of my questions! :)

I'm so confused on feeding. My fish are 3.5-4.5. I buy the pellets, most of us use (purple bag and black bag), and the gel, and veggies. These pellets the bag says as much as can be consumed within a few minutes. I think if given five minutes each fish would consume 15+.

Some feed eight times a day others two. The pellets bags say two to four times... Is that based on fish size?

Overfeeding is extremely bad.

My brain hurts.

!!HELP!! My female ranchu has these white spots on her head she has a few in her body as well, none of my other goldfish have it. Is it white spot/ich?!?

Posted: 13 Oct 2021 01:31 PM PDT

fantail question, i’ve had him for around 12 months and have just recently changed the water again and noticed that his gills seem to be larger on his right side almost like they’ve split. does this look normal for a fantail or has he been injured during the water change/clean and i didn’t notice?

won this goldfish at the fair

Posted: 13 Oct 2021 09:31 AM PDT

Help my boyfriend won me this fish at the fair and I didn't realize how big they got and how much you need to clean after them. I don't have space for anything bigger than 10 gallons. What should I do with him?
