Crayfish Substrate change: I was looking for a change in my crayfish/guppy tank since I couldn’t keep live plants and too much fake stuff was looking pretty bad. Sand and more rock was the answer.

Gelatinous claw after molt?

Posted: 17 Oct 2021 05:35 PM PDT

My wild caught crawfish initially only had a nub instead of his right claw. Now that he has molted, his claw has grown significantly but it is nonfunctional and looks rubbery/gelatinous. When I google crayfish jelly legs I only come up with actual jelly made from crayfish which is both gross and unhelpful.

Will this get better with the next molt or will it just become a larger jello claw? Should I do something about it?

Orange spots on crayfish ————— HELP —————

Posted: 17 Oct 2021 07:22 PM PDT

So my procambus clarkii crayfish I have had for about 8 months and for the last 1-2 weeks I have been noticing this orange crack on the side of his chest and on one of the feets/ mini claws. Basically on my birthday which was oct 4th so that's when my caryfish escaped he got on the heater and grabbed himself out of the tank from the lid and went All the downstairs and into to kitchen which means he had to travel on about 20 feet and a flight of stairs on his own this happened during the night and so I'm guessing for a crayfish this probably took pretty long journey for him but when I woke up in the morning and realized he wasn't there I went looking for him and found him in the kitchen I found him in a really dark dark drown/grey and his natural color is bright white as soon as I found him he could barely move so I brought him back to the tank plopped him in and he floated on the surface for like 45 mins. The day after I noticed he had his color back but there were these orange spots and cracks on him and they have been getting worse and worse so wondering if it is like an infection or maybe something like gangrene because he was starved of oxygen for so long. So could you tell me what this is and if it is anything to worry about and if it is what should I do.

*he has one rankmate (red tail shark 3 inches)

*20 gallon filtered pure clean water with purigen
