Goldfish - Aquariums - I got my camera fixed, so heres a nice video of OJ! You can see how much of his tail has grown back (clear, oddly enough!) so happy with his progress:)

HELP. my goldfish is dying. should I put him out of his misery?

Posted: 11 Jun 2021 05:23 PM PDT

crossposted.

I have a 12+ year old fancy/fantail goldfish. I suspected he might be nearing death for the last ~2 weeks. He was hanging out at the top of the aquarium (which he never really does) like 24 x 7. He was nearing his lifespan so I thought it was inevitable. Aquarium levels were optimal / normal so I know it wasn't that.

I came home from work and he was stuck on the filter in that curved "dead fish" on his side position. I turned off the filter and how he's just floating around the tank. I know he is still alive because he does keep opening his mouth and breathing (there are still air stones flowing). but very slowly. now just resting on a plant. :(

I have clove oil. Should I put the poor thing down or just let him slowly end? I don't know what is more humane in this case.

EDIT: RIP. The poor boi has passed naturally. :(

Swim bladder, help !

Posted: 11 Jun 2021 03:10 PM PDT

I've had my goldfish for at least 4 years. He has struggled with swim bladder his whole life. I am convinced that there is nothing I can do to help him. My water is perfect, my other gosh leave him alone, he is in a 55 gallon tank, I make sure the only food he eats is under the water, I feel peas like 2 times a week, and my other fish seem perfectly normal. Now he is floating and he has a red patch on the part of his body that is above the water. I really don't know what to do at the point, anything will help.

anxious goldfish questions.....

Posted: 11 Jun 2021 01:44 PM PDT

My fancy goldfish is in the minimum size tank and I would like to move him. He is sometimes lethargic(sometimes active), will spend time on the bottom of his tank, sometimes upside down(though he can flip himself rightside up), but still can swim and eat normally. His tank is clean and I've been careful with giving him a balanced diet and not overfeeding him. Is he possibly only experiencing issues related to a cramped tank, or should I pay attention to smth else ? What extra precautions might come with moving him if there are other issues causing this behaviour? Would an indoor tank be better than an outdoor pond due to his health ? Is it important the new space is isolated and there arent other fish around (yet?) ? Sorry, thanks everyone

Why didn’t my cycle hold?

Posted: 11 Jun 2021 11:46 AM PDT

Disclaimer: I'm already treating the problem with frequent water changes, using a bubbler and aquarium salt, as well as keeping my stock at one fish until it's stable

I started my first goldfish tank: 47 gallon, Aquaclear 70, single 3" oranda. I used some media from the canister on my established 20 gallon.

In the past my tank has instantly been cycled when I've done this, but I'm still reading 0.5-1 ppm ammonia with no nitrates or nitrites after several days. I added more cycled media and I'm having the same problem. Water was treated with Prime, no bleach/contaminants, no drying out. Is going from warm to room temp water the issue? Have I just not waited long enough for the BB to catch up?

I just bought a 60 gallon tank for my current goldfishes, a yuan bao, 3 ranchus and a shubunkin with my graduation money. I should’ve started with that tank in the first place instead of a 20 gallon long :’)

Yo, so I have 4 sub-adult orandas and 2 sub-adult plecos in a 40 breeder.. is that over populated? Gets pretty dirty pretty quick. Thoughts?
