A picture of my sick goldfish for reference. Sorry I couldn't get a better one but hopefully you can see what I'm talking about from my last post here.

Red pupils in a goldfish??

Posted: 14 Jun 2021 09:08 PM PDT

Do red eyes mean potential parasite? My gold fishes eyes turned red, and I'm worried about his health. So far he has been acting normal, doesn't seem to be blind, nitrate levels and PH are consistent. They only thing I can think of is temperature in my apartment hit 81 one day, but it was fixed when I noticed the issues after 12hours. I've had Freddy for only about 4 years now, so I'm ruling out old age. However I've never seen a gold fishes eyes turn red randomly, so I know it's going to be some type of health issue, just not sure what. Has anyone else have this happen to their goldfish? Know any treatment if treatment can be done?

My scaley baby is sick and I really need some help!

I noticed white spots all over my goldfish about three days ago (ich) and immediately began treatment with jungle brand ich guard and aquarium salt. I don't know how I didn't notice it when I went to feed him the days leading up to this because it seemed pretty advanced when I finally noticed. He was covered in the spots all over his body. They are starting to get slightly better with daily water changed and continuing treatment. The problem that I have now though, is that his fins are still constantly clamped and he now has red spots all over his fins and body that seem to get worse each passing day. Could it be irritation from the ich, or could he have a secondary disease? I'm having a hard time finding pictures or information online that match very well to what I'm seeing. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

I got a 55 gallon it was pretty dirty I let it soak overnight with white vinegar and mostly water then cleaned it in the morning and drained right after, washed it with warm water let dry twice. Still kinda smells like vinegar after filling it up for a day?

Can you mix two kinds of goldfish? (Ex. Oranda x fantail, telescope x Ryukin, etc)

Specialized Food for 'Special Needs' Goldfish?

Posted: 14 Jun 2021 07:00 AM PDT

I am happy to announce that my two little baby goldfish have made it past the 6 month mark now! I am thinking that something was genetically wrong with the father as no other fry have made it this far and the two that I have are a little deformed.

They both have curled gills, one has only half a dorsal fin (making him look like he has a mohawk), and they both have mouth problems. The mohawked one has what looks like a cleft lip and the other one just barely opens his mouth at all. It's this one that I'm worried about.

He doesn't seem to have great depth perception and misses catching his food a lot. He also doesn't have the normal goldfish mouth to suck it in (they are a mix of fantail and ranchu). We used to have another fantail in with them but we quickly had to get rid of him as he was bothering my babies too much (they were the same age but from different parents). This was when my little goldie stopped growing. Now the two of them have a very noticeable size difference and I was wondering if it was from possible bullying from the previous fish or the feeding problems - or both.

Other than those problems they seem to be healthy and are enjoying life. I just need to know if there's anything I can do for the little guy. Perhaps a specialized food that I can give him? Right now they're on goldfish flakes, bug bites and a vitamin powder that I add to their food. I also have sinking pellets but I haven't tried them with that yet. (And I have a constant supply of baby guppies so I always have some hikari first bites at hand if that might help?)

As for the tank that they're in, I moved them over from a 30L fry tank to a bigger 125L tank. It hasn't been changed in a while and still has the hideous coloured gravel in it. I have been looking for a 200L tank for their final move - would this be ok for them considering their problems? And should I have a bare-bottom tank or the usual substrate that I use for my cory/guppy tank (it's not quite sand and not quite gravel - it lies somewhere in the middle but is still quite soft)

They may be deformed and have some problems but they're my little babies and I want to give them the best life I can give them. Any advice would be great!

I have two 26 gallon steralite bins and was wondering if they would work for goldfish fry if I were to breed them.

Veggie goldfish snacks?

Posted: 14 Jun 2021 05:12 AM PDT

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone feeds their goldfish veggies.

I have 3 two inch fantail, and they eat all the plants. I can't replace them at the rate they're being eaten, but I know a bit of plant, especially the fiber, is good for the little dears when they're on pellets. I tried some very, very finely shredded fresh carrot this morning, but they weren't into it. I tried some dried basil flakes, same effect.

I'd love any tips or ticks, thanks.
