Is this going to be an ok size and material for a pond for my two common goldfish?

5ft Oval Diptank: https://www.diptanks.co.uk/products/p/8ft-round-tank-hz9ey-zb8c4-gfwnh-t3ssc-p7z58-hp82b-wd3gn-3b342

I need to rehouse my two common goldfish (1 is about 5 inches, other is about 4 inces). They are currently in an embarrasingly small tank which they were delivered in (I offered tor ehome them). They are going to need a new home and I figured a pond would be the biggest and cheapest combination. I live in the UK and I felt this looked like a pretty robust and simple way of having a raised pond, I have a disability so this should make it easier to look after in many ways.

Any comments or suggestions welcome.

Wondering if my fantail had TB

Posted: 01 Jun 2021 11:58 AM PDT

Unfortunately I was too upset to think of taking pictures at the time. I had 4 fan tails in a semi-planted 55g tank, which tank at the time had been running for about 8 months. Now it's been over a year. Obviously this was a while ago, but I still think about it and wanted to run my experience by others who have more, well, experience. FWIW I test my water and do a 40ish percent change each week, but I only remember that at the time of the fish death in question I saw no red flags in the tests, so I'm assuming the numbers were around 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate, 7.4 PH.

Gwennie was a calico fantail, about three inches, and around 5-6 months old. She was purchased from my LFS. She began in the last two months of her life to develop a series (never more than 2 at a time) of small white growths protruding from her scales, which appeared pimple-like. Eventually each growth would 'burst' and a white soft substance would come out. The sore remaining would heal quickly and leave no trace. After about a month of this (I tried about a million different treatments to no effect) I noticed that her spine seemed to bend as one side of her abdomen swelled. She lost her appetite and eventually her buoyancy. I made the determination that it was unfair to prolong her suffering, and put her down. Her abdominal area had a lot of amber fluid in it. This was back in November I believe, and her tankmates are all thriving with no similar symptoms.

I decided not to get another goldfish for the tank because I have heard TB can lay dormant and my fish could be carriers. I don't want to subject another goldfish to this disease — if that's what Gwennie had. I'm wondering if anyone else had experiences like this and recognizes the symptoms? The closest thing I found online was TB, but I'm still not sure. I live in a small town with no vet who sees fish, so that was never an option.

Filter Frustration

Posted: 01 Jun 2021 03:20 PM PDT

Okay y'all, so, I'm gonna start this by saying don't worry--I have not and am not ever planning to rinse off my filter with tap water lmao

Basically, the issue I'm currently having is that I feel like my filter is always like... disgusting? Every time I clean it, I feel like I can get it kinda less nasty for a bit but then not long goes by and, boom, nasty again. I've seen a lot of people say to rinse it off in aquarium water, which I've been doing when I do water changes, but I just feel like no matter what I do I can never get it to be anything less than like... grody.

I currently have one fairly young oranda in a 30 gallon tank, and he is definitely a little garbage man but I feel like I'm fighting an insane battle against my tank just constantly being like... gross? I don't know the numbers off the top of my head (sorry!) but every time I do any kind of water testing it all comes up completely normal. I feel like I used to be able to keep it like SO nice and clean but these days it's just a total mess no matter what I do and I feel like I'm at a loss. The fish himself is fine, he's loving every second of it lmao so it's purely for me that I'm frustrated by the way it looks.

How do you guys go about keeping things so sparkling clean? I see so many photos and videos of beautifully clean tanks and I'm just like... how?!
