My 2 year old niece got me a “present” for Marshall’s and Dominik’s tank, we’re not too sure about it but we definitely appreciate the thought

Male + Female Housing?

Posted: 04 Jun 2021 11:20 AM PDT

I'll preface this with the fact I'm new to Axolotl care so any tips are appreciated!

I just got two axolotls from someone who was unable to care for them, I've done a bit of research and have a large 35 gallon bare bottom tank with several hides for them as well as food. My only concern at the moment is that one is male and the other is female. I assume this means there's a chance of them breeding, is there anyway I can stop this or should I just get a tank divider as the tank is big enough to do so?

Tiny black dots floating in water

Posted: 04 Jun 2021 07:53 AM PDT

My axie is in quarantine right now while his tank cycles (nitrogen cycle crashed). I'm doing 100% water changes every 12 hours and when I switched tubs this morning I noticed a few tiny black dots floating around his old tub. As best as I can tell, he is healthy. Straight tail, normal looking gills, acceptable water parameters, he is a little skinny though. I was wondering if anyone had any guesses. The dots were circular, I do not believe them to be his gills (which are also dark) but I'm not sure where they'd be coming from. He had not eaten in the mentioned tub and the only things in there besides him are an air stone and a fake plant he likes to lay under.

Growing up to be a pretty momma!

Missing limbs?! 13 weeks old with no front paws (back legs are totally fine). Will they grow in or is there something wrong here? Seems to struggle while moving around tank and I’m wondering if there is anything I can do. Any responses much appreciated!

Flying from Oahu to Washington state?

Posted: 03 Jun 2021 10:27 PM PDT

Hello! I'm planning on moving from Oahu (Hawaii) to Washington state and I have two axolotls that I'd love to be able to bring with me.
If I were moving between states on the mainland I would probably just shell out the cash for overnight priority shipping but as I am technically overseas, the "overnight" shipping would realistically be two or three days at minimum. I really don't think I should risk it- especially now during summer where temps outside can get into the 90s.
My other option would be to carry them through TSA as a carry-on, but I was unsure of their policies if there was more than one animal. One of my axies is about twice the size of the other and I'm worried that they'd get a bit nippy with each other if I packed them together. Would TSA be okay with one of those styrofoam coolers with two separate plastic bags like they use for fish at the pet store? Would a cooler even fit in the overhead compartment? Would the plastic bags pop on the plane because of the air pressure?

Available sweet babies

Hi friends! I’ve noticed Taako has developed some lumps and I’m not sure why. Any ideas on if they’re a problem/how I can treat them? (He’s still eating well and staying active, doesn’t appear to be in pain, just wanting to make sure)
