Saw these beautes today

My father fished this poor guy out the pond today, said it had been stabbed (fuck herons) though I could not make it out in the picture. I wondered if the redness could be an indicator of something else?

Koi at the top of my pond breathing/eating?

Posted: 09 Jun 2021 05:10 PM PDT

It's doing the eating motion at the top of my pond and I've read things to say this might be because of lack of oxygen. I have two airstones going and a filter system so I'm not sure what's going on.

Edit- Since the post I have done a cleaning of the filter/bottom of the pond and probably changed about half if not more of its water. Hopefully, that will save off disaster and will be looking at a bigger filter for tomorrow. Even though I think I'm probably around how many gallons of pond/filter can handle.

Would you guys say this is a lotus or water lily? I’m leaning towards lotus because the flower doesn’t exactly sit on the water. I’m just curious what I have here and I’d like to share my first flower..regardless what it is.

Is it necessary to add salt to your koi pond?

Is it necessary to add salt to your koi pond?

In four years of koi pond ownership, I have never added salt before. Usually I just add Microbe-Lift (see photo) every couple weeks in the summer months. Recently my husband and I noticed that one of our koi looks bloated (see photo). Initially we thought she was pregnant, but it's been a month and she is still bloated; moreover, patches of her body have turned a faint shade of pink. After doing some research on sick koi, we learned that salt can be helpful, so we ordered pond salt as well as a salinity meter. The initial reading on the salinity meter (before adding any salt) was 330 ppm. The volume of our pond is approximately 500-1,000 gallons. I added five cups of pond salt; now the salinity meter reads 550 ppm. I saw online that 0.3-0.5% salinity is ideal, and obviously we are still waaay below that at .055%, but it seems that I would have to add so much salt to get to the desired level.

Is it necessary to add salt to a koi pond? If so, how much salt? Also, does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong with our bloated koi, and would salt be a potential solution to this? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Koi Fish Constipation

Posted: 08 Jun 2021 09:39 AM PDT

Hey guys! If anyone could give me suggestions, my koi carp is constipated right now and is laying at the bottom of the tank. I'm assuming that he got overfed as I had someone else take care of him and he's bloated. Is there anything I can do to treat the constipation? He hasn't pooped for the past 2 days. He's also very young, only slightly above a year old.
