Drogon the GFP Wild, begging for more worms when she already had more than enough. Also showcasing her beautiful gold-tipped floofs. Drogon is now up to 6in. I got her less than 3 months ago at about 3in. Is this a normal growth rate?

This is Mulder. He’s my canine Axolotl. I am constantly thinking he looks just like one.

Slate Tile

Posted: 31 May 2021 04:54 AM PDT

Recently, I purchased slate tile from Home Depot. From the information provided in the description, it's all natural. It definitely has layers and parts of the layers have broken off as I washed it. My plan is to seal the slate tile on the bottom of my 20g long to provide grip. I have already sized the tile and scrubbed it with hot water, but what other measures can I do to ensure it is safe? Do I have to pour vinegar on a piece of slate? Soak a piece of it in water and test the pH? Boil it? Any tips are greatly appreciated. I'm on mobile so I am sorry if the formatting is weird, I can't shorten the links on mobile anymore either, sorry!

Here's the slate tile I am using:

Sealant I am using:

Clear Aquarium Silicone Sealant - 10.2 Fluid oz Cartridge https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EZB1QQ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_HHSDPHH1B2ANNMQ2Z1W6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Thank you!

Filter keeps clogging

Posted: 31 May 2021 12:22 PM PDT

Anyone else that pellet feeds their axolotls...are y'all experiencing a super dirty tank with slimey stuff on the glass and a clogged filter every week?

Maybe I'm feeding the wrong pellets or maybe I should just switch back to worms

Any recommendations??

ammonia high and not sure why

Posted: 31 May 2021 09:47 AM PDT

hi! i've recently bought an axolotl. i'm keeping him in a small tank for now as he's a tiny baby but he will be moved to a 20 gal or a ciano 80 tartarium.

i didn't cycle the tank as i had a fully cycled filter i used for my old tank and was under the impression that that would be enough. however, ammonia is very high and consistently shoots up. i changed the water on saturday, tested last night and it was at 0.25-0.5 and now it's at 1.

what is causing this? i thought my cycled filter would have enough bacteria to break down ammonia.

my axie seems fine, he ate last night and is moving around today. water temp is 19/20 degrees c

how can i get rid of this?

New axolotl parent trying to do the right thing. Help us out?

Got some bad advice from a pet store... current situation is I got myself a master test kit and it looks the bio material I was given wasn't enough to start my tank cycle after all. High ammonia but no nitrate or nitrite. Low pH.

Little lady here is tubbed til we can get it under control.

I did a bunch of research online and would love to get confirmation I'm taking care of this well or suggestions if not

Questions are 1) how to safely tub? It's my first time doing it and I'm a first time owner. What are step by step instructions? I thought I did it well w water treated w prime, 8 hrs in I woke up to her thrashing and the water murky w liquid doodie. Switched her out to another tub but I'm worried now that'll happen while I'm at work. I share a fridge with housemates and it gets cold in there so I'm scared to fridge her and hurt her.

2) what to do for my cycle? Seems like I've got the ammonia needed to start the cycle (it's about 2.5 ppm). But my pH is low. Will adding APIA Quick Start be sufficient to start the cycle?

Getting a new friend

Posted: 31 May 2021 09:17 AM PDT

I'm looking into getting an axolotl. I've done quite a bit of research already. Is there anything I need to know that I would only learn by having one. Best time to feed, best rotation of cleaning the tank. Any advice on filtration would be awesome as well. I know they like minimal water movement. I just don't want to purchase something that won't work for what I want it to do.

best place to get one?

Posted: 31 May 2021 08:51 AM PDT

Me and my mom have been thinking about getting an axolotl for a while now, and we finally decided to go ahead and buy the supplies and tank for it. But we aren't sure what the best place to get one is. I live in Dallas. Either online or instore suggestions are welcome!
