AVOID Coast Gems US at all cost

Posted: 17 Apr 2021 04:08 AM PDT

Does anyone have experience with Coast Gems US? Im having a horrible experience with the company. First, I ordered my fish nearly two months ago and they wouldn't respond to me for a good month. I sent them messages daily for about two weeks asking about my order and not a single reply UNTIL I filed a claim with PayPal. Then they replied once, telling me they'd ship my fish. My fish sat in a box for 3 days before they even had it picked up by fedex and then was in the mail for another 7 DAYS. When the fish arrived I only received 3 out of the 7 fish I had ordered and all but one was dead. Boxed smelled horrific. So I messaged them over and over again for about a week and a half with no reply. Reopened a dispute with PayPal and only then is when they decided to reply again. First guy I spoke with told me he'd send me new fish, no problem. Then today I got a call from who I assume is the manager or owner saying they will only send me fish if I close my dispute with PayPal. My experience so far leaves me to believe they are very untrustworthy and don't care about their customers, so why would I do that?? The guy really said to me " well if we ship the fish and you get them and keep the claim open I'm out of money." Ok well I've been out of $150 too because they wouldn't send my order after an excessive amount of time and when they finally did they didn't even send half my order. So if I close my claim with PayPal and I don't get my fish then I'm also out of money? My biggest issue is the lack of communication and they seem to not give a damn. I really wish I would have read online reviews before ordering from this site because all the reviews are very similar experiences to mine. At this point I'm just hoping PayPal gives me my money back so I can take my business elsewhere but PayPal has been difficult. I sent them weeks of evidence of no communication or a lack of; even sent a screenshot of the company saying they'd refund me and PayPal still decided to deny my claim at first when I hadn't even received the order just because Coast Gems sent tracking info and even though I paid for overnight and the fish arrived after a week in fedex possession. Had to reopen a new claim with PayPal as "missing items or not what expected". This has all been a huge headache and I just want my money back. If you're ordering bettas online I suggest not using Coast Gems. Instead use a creditable site like Tucky's Bettas.

Glow-up...and looking for a new home! (Washington, DC)

Glow-up...and looking for a new home! (Washington, DC)

Hey there! We rescued a betta from atrocious conditions (ammonia >5ppm, living with large goldfish, etc.) in the fall, and have decided it's time to share some pics and rehome him. When we got him, it was hard to tell what he would look like if he survived, and so we took our best guess and named him Mustard. I don't know what his final coloration will be (if he continues changing) but we now suspect he might be a blue crowntail. He's recovered very well and has a TON of personality, but his coloration has never fully come back, though there's still time. His fins are still growing...

Pick up in NW DC or Falls Church, VA, let me know you're interested!

Is this the right sub to ask for input/advice?

Posted: 17 Apr 2021 09:30 AM PDT

I see all your beautiful bettas and find myself concerned that my Boi didn't have a "glow up". I'm very much on a budget but would like to know what steps I can make to ensure he is happy. I want to get him a tank mate eventually but I feel he deserves something different right now. If this is the right place to get advice, I'd be happy to explain the situation, why I got him, what improvements I made. Thank you!!

Where do you find quality-made tank ornaments?

Posted: 17 Apr 2021 07:13 AM PDT

I've had 2 GloFish ornaments that I bought from a pet store. One was a silicon anemone and the other was a neat barrel. Within a month or two, the fake anemone got dark stains (maybe mold?) that I could not remove, so I threw it out. The parameters of my water seemed good, so I have no idea what happened there. After about 4 months of having the barrel, the paint has been chipping, and I've taken this out because I don't want it to endanger my betta and snail. The barrel was placed under the spout of the filter and over the airstone, so I could imagine that this flow of water contributed to the paint chipping.

I have fake plants that are currently in the tank. However, my question is: Where can I find quality fish ornaments? I don't want to buy another "cheap" GloFish ornament, and I'm not sure what brand to trust. What has worked for you?

Meet Uruoi, my first betta! Brought him home from the pet store 3 days ago and he still looks a bit stressed. Hopefully he’ll grow big and strong :)

(Sorry for the bad quality) This is my female bettas I've had her for a few months she lives in a 39 gal and seems to be happy :)

Brought this bad boy home yesterday. What do you think his colors will turn out like? He shines iridescent periwinkle in the light, even on his white tips.
