My tank turned 3 today. To celebrate, here’s a macro-ish picture of my favorite genus of coral.

Here is my bio cube 28g from college! I moved out to California and my mom has been taking care of it and I think she’s doing a great job!

Ignore the ugly diatoms the tank if fairly new. Any tips on the rock structure?

Newb question: I have a waterbox cube 10 and am not sure the best place to put the heater? The 3rd compartment seems like a popular place but since that’s where the pump is the water level sometimes is low? I’ve heard putting it in the middle but do you just use a sock for the filter?

Would anyone be interested in free dino IDing and forensics services for fish?

Hey everyone! Former marine biologist and ecologist here. I have been out of the science field as of last year due to covid and it's really getting to me. Instead of moping around any longer, I've been thinking of ways to get back into my passion and finally made a decision to remedy this. I am looking to open up a small home business for marine life which would include: advanced water testing, fish identification, forensic analyses of diseased organisms, dinoflagellate identification, and other in-depth microscopy analyses. The microscope I would be using has a 2500x magnification, as well as a built in camera where I can upload the digital pictures of what I am observing. I feel like this would be a unique and fun way to get all parties involved if they're looking at having sampling being conducted so they can see what I am seeing, and I can explain what is being observed on each slide. I also hold a board certification in wildlife forensic sciences with UF so I would be able to help interpret how a fish may have passed away if it is sent to me for testing (sample would need to be sent to me on ice as autolysis decomposes aquatic organisms much too quickly otherwise).

I am willing to do all of this completely free of charge just to get back into the field. At most I would only charge for the cost of microscope slides, and maybe a tipping service if they feel inclined. But before doing any of this I first would like to know your opinions if you would like a service for something like this? I would love all of your guys' feedback to see if this is something that seems like a good idea for the aquarium hobby. Thanks everyone!

I impulse bought one today (I know, big mistake. I usually am really opposed to doing things like that but it's been a hard week) when I got home I started doing research and immediately regretted it. What are the chances that it'll kill my clownfish? Should I return it? I've read that they can coexist, they just won't host, but I've also read that they've killed clowns before. I also have a skunk shrimp in the tank, is he in any danger? Can anyone with experience keeping them give me some advice? Thank you
